Hi looking to get a new host as my current one isnt getting back to me and i cant log onto to the control panel as i've forgotten my password  so looking for a new more reliable well known host. So after a few names of companies you lot use.

Another question is what amount of webspace do you go for?? As i dont know what size i need lol

Any help is appreciated
Matt

I use fasthosts, great customer support and they start at around £3 a month or you can have a windows pro account for a further £11 a month which I have but to be honest the extra doesnt give me much more

I have a free site through weebly.com, found it ok to use and free too. There is a pro option if you want it...

I use Streamline, power user gives you 1.5gb webspace and, unlimited bandwidth for £39.99 per year or, £64.99 for 2 years.
Just a thought, aren't you going to need to log in to your present account to transfer away?

Pete

Streamline is garbage, I wouldn't update my new creditcard details to them so even though I had over a year of time left they lock you out of the control panel until you update this info. I now use 5quidhost and find them quick to respond to questions and never known them to be down so at £5 a month for 2gb space plus unlimited sub-domains and databases controlled through C Panel they get my goldstar at this moment in time

I'm surprised no one has said One.com??

I paid £9 for the first year (they advertise it as free but you have to pay the taxes so equates to around £9-10) for 3GB of storage, unlimited email addresses and no monthly fee's - simply the initial cost for the whole year.

I've just renewed my webspace with them for another 12 months and it has cost £19 for the same package of 3GB storage - again, no monthly fee's just a flat annual rate.

cheers for all the replies, I wont need to go onto my excisting host as im getting a completely new site at the same time, and domain can be transfered as thats through someone else.

whats the best size webspace to get? seen as it will have loads of pictures etc on, would 2-6gb be more than enough?

I am with PC Smart Hosting

had good service, they are always happy and quick to respond to queries

I get 5gb space, 100gb bandwith, unlimited email, databases etc for £40

I use eukhost - On one of their vps plans.

Instant support via their live chat, whenever I have an issue (usually something I've done, or don't know how to do). Only ever had one problem with them in 3 years, which they resolved within 10 minutes of my asking.

Highly recommended :)

I've been with Dataflame for years and have found their uptime and support to be pretty good.

2-6GB is plenty! Unless you are uploading loads of hi res images...

I've been with 34SP for years - not only one of the cheapest out there but fully featured and excellent support.
E.G. Last weekend I found my website was getting a lot of page hits form Russia and thought I might be getting a DOS attack. So sent a support email late Sunday afternoon; they offered help and advice right through Sunday evening through initial examination of the problem and eventual recovery of the hacked gallery.

anyone who advertises "unlimited" is either lying or stupid. You can't provide unlimited.

space is cheap. make sure you understand data transfer (bandwith) prices and terms conditions., this is especialy important for photographers as we use more than avaerage website owners.

I would check out....

Bluehost
Fasthost
Unitedhosting
Webfusion

Webspace will depend on how much you want to upload, but going for "unlimited" bandwidth is a very good option.

http://www.tsohost.co.uk/

support has got back to me within 10 mins both times ive contacted them. even at 11pm.

I have just switched from 1and1 (not really had a bad experience, but felt I could get more for my money).

I trawled the net for reviews and found tsohost recommended (probably by neil and sketch145. They have been great. I have rather more facilities and allowances than before, much cheaper and a UK freephone number. And it was answered by a human both times I rang with stupid questions.

I'm pretty impressed so far and would recommend them wholeheartedly.

At least check them out against who you plan to go with. They are in the UK too which may be important.

I use webfusion. Fine until you need to use the customer service and then I find them pretty poor. Also, of the four or so times I've had to speak to them in the past few months I have spoken to the same person three times despit contacting different areas of the dept, which makes me wonder how many people actually work in the CS dept!!

Plus, they once had a server crash which wiped my whole site and required me to upload it again...but they didn't tell me this until I called them to ask why my site wouldn't load.

I would swap to someone else if it didn't mean having my site go down for a few days to do so.

I use the Bronze VPS package offered at UKHost4U.com, not currently hosting any images there but my other sites are running off that package.

I also used their basic hosting packages for over 2 years (before I upgraded) and can not fault them, great support as well.

Another vote for TSOHost, there support is second to none

Tim

I use one.com

Have 4 sites hosted with them and there is a one off charge of 10 quid something for a full years hosting with a free .com domain name

As far as I am aware none of my sites have had ANY downtime in the time they have been live

I've ended up going with fasthost, although my domain still goes to my old host for now but hopefully that will be sorted later today when my friend who controls that domain transfers it to fasthost for me.

New site should be completed aswell tonight then its just a job of getting it all together and sorted.

Was there any particular deciding factor Matt? Just might help anyone looking over this thread.

Cheers.

vidahost for me too.

phpwebhosting here, been with them for a few years, had no fuss running many, many websites off one account, although using two accounts now.

Im with Jaguarpc.. much better than my other hosts Servage..
Be warned.. Servage are a freakin 'mare. Use them only if you want every bloody site hacked :(

I'm lucky enough to be a web developer, I just sneak my own stuff onto our dedicated servers :D
