At the end of last year Pablob started a thread on your achievements for 2009 and your goals for 2010 (here). I thought I start a "so how the hell are you getting on with that" thread. Even if you didn't post in that thread feel free to add your goals for 2010 here and how exactly you're getting on with those.

I'll start with what I said, and how I'm getting on:

2010
Get paid for at least 1 photography job (real ambition, get paid for lots of jobs!) - Not achieved yet
Get another photo published (not just from being nicked) - Not achieved yet
Start a website - Have started a blog instead, but I need to add more to it, it's a bit bare at the moment... here it is for anyone bored! Clicky
Look into stock photography - TICK! Although I only have 1 image up there so far

So really and truly I have only achieved 1 of my goals. There's another in progress, just decided I'd prefer to do up a blog before bothering with a website. The other 2 have been put to one side for now! I always considered the remaining 2 goals to be something that would happen in the latter end of the year as opposed to the start anyway. The only one of those I'd really like to achieve is the do some paid work. The other is more of a "bonus goal" if I do achieve it.

What has held me up with the other goals is I found film photography and this ended up eating a shed load of my time! So I think it's time to focus myself a bit again and get working on those goals.

So tell me.... how are you lot getting on in 2010?

Well, from only having bought my first 'proper' camera a few months ago - I have been really pleased with how things have gone.

I've sold a coupe of prints of landscape pics.
I now do photography as part of my job at work
I have had lots of good feedback on pics on here and flickr including from some established professionals - especially on these :)

Not really sure what my goals are tbh - I would certainly like to pursue photography further, but I don't think I'd like to be a full time pro. I'm not really interested in weddings, portraits, baby photos etc which seem to be bread and butter for most people.

I do intend to set up a website though in the next 6 months. I work in the arts anyway so I think I would probably have some reasonable opportunities if I pursued it a bit more.

I've got some inheritance money coming my way and I'm sorely tempted to splurge some of it on a D700 or 5DMk II - but I dunno if this is silly.

New website - done
SEO - done and ongoing
Wedding fayres booked - done
Advertising - done (and more to do)
Swapped equipment - done
training (ongoing) booked for March
LRPS - done (now working towards ARPS for next year)

research on premesis and possible freelancing, just started. :)

well for me it was more of;

do well on my GCSE's - im awaiting the results
enter some photo comps - ive entered a few but want to enter more
get a part time job to pay for gear - not achieved yet
get some portrait experience - nearly achieved as my first client will be soon

all in all im not doing to bad i think.

i have a coupple, not really along the same lines as everyone else...

1: Enjoy it, i rarely find a hobby that i enjoy for a long time that doesnt end up becoming my job...

2: try and get some money from it, id like to sell some of my pictures, i dont think there quite good enough yet, and i dont know where to start with it, but thats a task for another day...

Become a fulltime pro togger - done :)
Sort my website and SEO (including social networking) - ongoing
Get a long running project with a sustainable income - done :)
Get my ABIPP and ARPS - in progress...
Perfect my PP technique - ongoing (will probably never end lol)
Start working on some major projects with a view to producing an exhibition - in progress
get published - not yet
make some profit this year - bloody hope so :D

Its been a great year for me so far, and I just hope it continues :)

My aim was to continue working freelance... yup that's done :)

Photography got put way down the list of priorities this year as I am now competing horses and was in my final year of university so it was all a bit hectic... aim for the rest of the year is to get back into taking photos for my own enjoyment again- easier said than done, I have a horse show planned pretty much every weekend until end of aug either competing or working for a sports tog down here!

Actually use LR - just started.
Take lots more (what I think are quality) pics - ongoing.
Get a backup body (w'out arousing suspicion from Mrs Meeten) - done
Try some macro - tried it, and realised it's not my thing
Learn more CS4 - never ending
Be appreciated for the time I spend behind the camera / in front of the pic - NO CHANCE!

Suddenly all those plans laid out in January seem very far away...

Weddings: Target was to have 6 - 8 bookings per year (5 booked so far, 2 already booked for 2011)

Portraits: Has been my main focus; looking to develop range beyond the traditional family / child shoot. Done this - have moved into working with pro models and producing some editorial type images

Website: updates still ongoing - deciding on how it should be structured, what to include etc. I hate it at the moment because it just seems to sit in an interim state. Waiting for summer vacation to actually nail it.

Career: still in full time teaching so not braved the move to reducing hours, but do have an increase allocation in photography hours - plenty of A Level and GCSE to occupy me next year. Maintained evening classes teaching Digital Photography and Photoshop.

Kit: Upgraded to FX body - still keeping D300 as a spare. Upgrading lenses as we speak.

Qualification Failed first audition for BIPP - portraits were a little too pedestrian and some inattention to detail prevented my panel from succeeding. Looking to re-submit this summer but also looking at RPS as alternative body.

Personal Development started experimenting with off camera flash - purchased second flash gun and Strobies kit is on my birthday wish list!

In all, not bad but not good. The school stuff keeps getting in the way but I have relinquished my consortium responsibilities which has enabled me to pick up more photography teaching.

Roll on December to see where I am at then

Spooks

With just over 12 months experience I've now got to the point where I feel like I have a better idea about what I want to do with my photography, which is landscape and pet photography.

So, my goals for 2010 are:

Get a website, not for selling - done
Get paid for a pet photoshoot - done :D
Have my pictures used for promoting my charity - done :) See www.newsshopper.co.uk , the 'Tony and his friends' ad is my picture! I've also had three other pictures used for a magazine ad.
Learn how to shoot pictures that sell - am working on this one, have attended a course and will practice shooting to a brief.
Research stock photography and join one, then sell one picture - not started yet
Learn about the great landscape photographers - working on it
Learn about the best pet photographers - working on it
Get more experience shooting animals other than cats - I've got a plan, but haven't started yet

And for 2011:

Create a website for promoting the pet photography business
Create a business plan!
Expand on the stock photography

Great idea for a thread - it'll be interesting to look back at this at the end of the year, see how far we've come!

Yeah! It's cool to read what people are setting out to do and then see how far the actually get. I think YV started the first one back in 2008 with goals for 2009, and Pablob posted one for this year. I thought a mid-year thread would be a good way to "focus" us all when we actually look back on what we originally planned :)

I'm in awe of the amount some of you have both set out to and actually ended up achieving! Bravo folks

Kit: I'd like to upgrade my body, from my current 400D to possibly one of the 5Ds. Also I'd like to have a couple more lenses, a better upgrade from my 75-300mm one, and also a macro and wide angle lens.

Website: I'd like to have a busy working website with a constantly growing portfolio with possibly the option for people to buy prints directly. I'd also like to run a blog from there too, and actually keep to updating it! My boyfriend is building his own at the moment, so I'm hoping he can help me once he's figured out what he's doing!

Qualifications: My prospectus for Swansea Met arrived today for part time courses. They run a BA in Photojournalism which I'm going to apply for. I guess I'm going to be busy with my portfolio for the coming month or two then. But yes, this year I'm hoping to start my BA in Photojournalism.

Personal Development:
Gosh where do I start.. I'd mainly like to improve my skills in Photoshop as I have so much to learn. I think I'd like to improve my skills in everything in generall really. Who wouldn't?

Career: I already have a lot of people waiting for some studio shoots so I'm sure that as soon as my studio lights are delivered I can start shooting. So I'd really like to make that a regular thing over the year, to be able to make a steady bit of money on the side. I'd also REALLY like to get some of my work published this year, even if it's just a local paper. I need to enter more competitions too.

On the other thread I listed mine as:

Buy myself a lens worthy of sticking on the front of the D700 - Win. Got a Nikkor 28-70 F2.8. :)
Actually sell something on Alamy.....Fail. Still keep getting random QC fails as well :suspect:
Get an ARPS distinction Fail. Portfolio is ready but my mentor keeps saying, just change this, just change that, then fails to reply to emails for 2 months. I might just submit it anyway and see what happens.
Get on the waiting list for an exhibition Fail. Just haven't got round to it.
Get to at least 500000 page views on the website Win. Now up to 560000
Take some more great photos! Partial Win. One or two good 'uns, but haven't got myself out as often as I could have done.

Glad to see its not just me then that gets b****r all responses for ages from mentors and gets very little mentoring from the association at all... damn frustrating it is too!

LOL - I didn't even see this and wrote and update in my orginal thread! ooopsss! Sorry people :p Ignore that and run with this!

I've just reread a thread under a similar title that YV started for 2008!

This is what I wrote in that thread!

I haven't got out much this year as have had to too much going on elsewhere like getting Married, busy with work etc etc! Which is a pity :(

However I'm going to give myself a pat on the back as ;

1. I now have a website (ok quality of pics up for debate)
2. 'Manual' now doesn't scare me on my D700
3. I have got into the Lloyds of London Art Group and entered an exhibition where I sold 2 Canvases! http://www.lloydsartgroup.co.uk/
4. Finally found out I mainly like photographing people and Landscapes and i'm going to stick to that. Previously I was just buying lenses to cover all bases like Macro Lenses! The Fool!

Think that's it!

Goals for 2010

1. Improve website mainly from the excellent feedback I got from you guys who took the time to feedback!
2. Get a paid gig doing something even if it's just a portrait session
3. Improve!!!!! Improve!!!!! Improve
4. Hopefully with a smidgen of my Bonus come April own a Nikon 200m F2! (Helps not having a wedding to pay for lol)
5. Do a course - quite fancy one of Lovegrove's Urban Day's out - looks awesome.
6. Bloody learn CS4

So what did you guys achieve in 2009 and where do you want to be with your Photography in 2010?

Sooooo.... Where is everyone with this?!

This is me.

1. More content but still needs work :( Also fancy doinga blog as I think this will help focus me more.
2. Check :D
3. Improving slightly I think , Still much more is required here ;)
4. Luckily Bonus came good. Did own this lens but to be honest it was far too much for me at my stage - traded for a 70-200 VRII which is equally nice and easier to use :)
5. Check - Did a speedlite mastery course and would like now to do a studio course of some description and a wedding course. I still need to improve my use of light big time :(
6. I really find it a struggle to sit and learn things like this. That said now I'm getting out taking more pictures I'm find ways of post processing which I guess is good.

Bonus Point 7. - Helped out on a wedding which is probably the biggest eye opener so far photography wise (in a very positive way).

Frustrations so far.

Not getting enough camera time. I picked up a DSLR about 1.5 years ago but I've only used it properly on a handful of occaisions :( . Not good enough - Pure and simple.

I want everything to work straight away, I think this comes from my day job. I've noticed now that on more recent shoots that I'm taking my time more, framing where I want the light to be etc. Almost builing up to shots if that makes sense. Probably not.

I also get frustrated with myself far too easily, which happened recently at a wedding I assisted to an extent where I almost wanted to jack the whole photography thing in. I didn't have the time I was used to when say shooting a model and I genuinely felt like a complete plonker some of the time. This of course was complete and utter **** (apart from being a plonker :) ) but it took me a few days to realise this. I had to understand time wasn't really a luxury and it was great seeing a how a pro does all this, the mindset, the way of doing things, where to be. It also helped that it was a slightly challenging wedding to be a part of which I think is great for cutting your teeth on if you're thinking of doing such a genre which I'd certainly like to do at some stage with a ton of practice of course.

Anyway enough drivvle from me.....

So where you lads and ladettes at?! Hope everything's all good

LOL - I didn't even see this and wrote and update in my orginal thread! ooopsss! Sorry people :p Ignore that and run with this!

I probably should have just bumped your thread come to think of it :bonk:. Anyway, great minds, eh!

Since its only half way through the year, I haven't completed all my aims yet:

2010:
- Hope to buy 24-105mm F4 Not done yet- thinking about the 24-70 2.8
- Be a wedding assistant for a year (shout if you need one!)Working with a wedding photography this year- done 2 weddings so far, another 6 to go
- Sell 150 images on istock. Sold 18 so far this year, really starting to get more images upoaded
- Start to change careers.... Not as far as I hoped with this- getting there though

Well a few goals from me

- Set up a website - done
- Have pictures displayed in a gallery - done (although not for long)
- Have pictures displayed in a semi permanent gallery - Not done
- Sell a mounted print - Not done
- Invest in camera/lenses - Order placed on the weekend :)

I really really want to sell something, but need gallery space to do that, having trouble at the moment getting any of them to pay attention to me :(

LOL - I didn't even see this and wrote and update in my orginal thread! ooopsss! Sorry people :p Ignore that and run with this!

Actually... I wonder should we hassle the mods for a request to merge the 2 threads?

Get good enough to be able to consider it as a career at some point!

Not a lot else really, that said I've not had long to consider aims!

i allways mean to set up my own website but whenever i get round to doing it im stuck with a lack of knowledge/ability :(

Try Clikpic - they are very user friendly and fab!

2010:
- Improve... I think I am...others may disagree
- Build up a bit of a portfolio, perhaps work out what I like shooting best My portfolio is starting to come together
- Get to some Motorsport events Doubt I'll get the chance this year
- Sort out a simple web-site All set up just needs a bit of tweeking
- Join my local camera club not yet
- Improve my macro stuff work in progress
- Try and enter every round of POTY not entered a single one

I have also been doing a 52 which I think has helped no end and I've also enterred a few local competitions
