Your photography pet hates

Chimpers.

People who ask me to take photo's of their girlfriend/pet/mum when I'm out 'on location'.

People who look at the name of the camera I'm using and turn their noes up because I'd be a better photographer if I shoot Nikon, Leica, Hasselblad?

The upgrade itch.

The call of APS-H/full frame is getting louder. :gag:

Lens lust & not being able to afford the desired equipment.

Seeing the work of local professional photographers who have about the same skill level I had a while ago. You know, with my multi settings digital camera, not even a bridge camera. I'm really not sure how they sell their photos.

The fact that I never seem to be happy with my own photos! Especially of my own dog.

When people take the Nikon vs Canon vs whatever debates seriously.

As a newbie to this photography lark I haven't had time to develop any deep pathological hatred for anything yet. But I do get a bit miffed as it always seems to be sunny when I'm at work and miserable when I'm off.

THOSE people who just have to wander into shot, intentional or not. Despite there being miles (literally in my case over the weekend) of countryside to wander in. I at least make an attempt to get behind the togger, or stop and see what they are wanting to shoot so I can move accordingly. Some people don't even have the mindset to do this.

The way that I'm never pleased with my own work & I enthusiastically note shoot ideas but can never carry them out.

Pro's that shoot one thing and one thing only, and consider what they do to be the pinnacle of photography, and the beginning and end of everything.
I'm talking about wedding shooters, baby's, family portraits, sports shooters, cars......ah hell, why not go the whole hog.....all pro's whatever they shoot are a pain in the arse, because you have to pay them to do it...

wait.....I'm having second thoughts, if I had to shoot baby heads all day, I'd wanna be paid a flippin lot...like cleaning drains, I do it but I'd cost **** loads..

Attitude then, pro's attitude is my pet hate..:D

Not exactly a pet hate and it does make me chuckle but I suppose it could be a gripe

Other people (usually older men) who can't contain their surprise that the 5D2 is mine and the 500D is his when we are out together

Toggers who think they "own" the bit of beach, countryside or area they are trying to shoot and get "funny" if you dare wander into that area ;)

The word "toggers" appeared quite a lot in this thread. Not quite as offensive as "nifty fifty", but come on! :gag:

Just got through the 13 page thread.. I couldn't stop reading for some reason.. some fairly valid points made well and some fairly petty ones to match... quite a bit of snobbery mixed in. Personally my only gripes are personal to my abilities.. I couldn't give a toss if someone uses the term nifty fifty for example the same way as I don't care if someone calls a Subaru a Scooby or a Samsung a Sammy. How some of you sleep with the anger running through you is a mystery to me

My personal pet hates are silly mistakes like lugging my camera about then finding I left my cards at home or the batteries are dead.. Adjusting settings and forgetting for subsequent shots and not taking the time to use the viewfinder to notice the ridiculous exposures and not previewing. Rushing to take pictures and not thinking enough about what I could achieve with more thought and composition. Also not stopping in the car when I think there is a good subject because I like to get where I am going. My unsteady hand. When it is too sunny to see in the viewfinder what results you are getting.

I might change my avatar to one of me behind a camera.. just to rebel
It's a 450d as per my vanity sig :bonk:

People who say it doesn't matter what equipment you use and then have thousands of pounds worth of gear and a lens for every shot. Yes it is mainly down to the person behind the camera but money does make a difference.

i've encountered this one recently quite abit, if you're at a family occasion/out with friends and you happen to mention owning a camera. There is somebody that always has a complete business plan set for you and you should be "taking pictures of the local under 7 football team/amateur boxing/local pigeon migration" as i'll be able to "make a fortune". I laughed it off at first but its starting to get pretty annoying  it's a hobby for now thanks

I've had that a few times but usually it's "We'll make a fortune." I pay for the equipment, do all the work but they get half because it was their idea.

And they wonder why I'm not interested :bang:

Mm excactly. Equipment does matter, not to improve your talents as a photographer but definitely to give you the abilty to get the shot you want.

People who think 'pet hates' is synonymous with 'rational argument'

Taking half-a-dozen shots of a subject only to walk 10 yards and find a much better angle of the same thing.

People who ask about my film cameras and then glaze over when I've only been explaining things for 15 minutes.

T'missus pointing out that the fridge is already full of films and not understanding that actually I really do need to buy more Portra 400.

I asked my cat today and he said being awoken then being grilled about what I hate.

personally i'm not that fond of talking cats

This has to be my #1 photographic hate!

& getting told I talk too much about film photography when they enquired first. If you aren't interested, don't pretend to be.

People who ask me to take 'portraits' of their pets. I hate animals. And working for free. Though I have to deal with both.

For me, seeing as i mainly shoot motorsport, is when i spend a fair amount of time manouvering around fences, trees and people to get a good spot to shoot from and some pro (trackside) comes and stands right in the way of my shot.

And it's not because I am bitter or anything like that. Just annoyed they chose to stand right in my way when they can blatantly see me.

I may think of some more but that's the main one.

People who have photography pet-hates, I love photography and I don't care what other people say, think or do. Get over yourselves.

Where's your sense of humour? Get with the program ;-)

Whichever lens I have on the camera, I always see shots that would suit one of my other lenses.

It's both annoying and amusing, especially if I've only just changed lens.

Ah, but if that were true then you wouldn't care that other people have pet hates.

I do not anticipate reading your response as I expect you have just imploded in a puff of logic. :naughty:

I used to take some shots at the local dance club on special nights (St Patrick's day, St George ) I would get a few printed up and put them on a table the next week only for people to say "25p ,I can get prints for 10p from Asda.............:bang:
Suffice it to say they haven't got a tame tog anymore.:baby:
