Your photography pet hates

People who use a flash (usually point and shoot cameras) when the subject is miles away.
People who think that you must have a DSLR to take decent pictures (and it must be canon or Nikon)
People who tell my partner how much my kit cost!

Let's be honest, people with point and shoots are just... Pointing and shooting! They either don't care about the flash, are aware of why its flashed or know how to turn off the flash. Its not their fault.

The term shoot/shot/shooting

Gear people
Daft watermarks - 'Sunflower Rose Photography Pix', 'Josh Images', etc
600 pictures a day so you have more chance of getting one lucky one

People making up categories/genres of photography - 'Underwater dog photography tutorial', 'That thing over there photography'

Babies in front of a white background looking small.
People holding small looking babies in front of a white background & smiling too much
People who only do both of the above & call themselves photographers

People telling me that my camera must take old fashioned pictures
People asking me how many megapixels is in my roll of film

Photographs being dismissed because they are 'blurry' or 'not sharp enough'

Seriously? People ask you how many pixels your roll of 120 has? (120 obviously HAHA)
With you on the sharpness comment though. What's the famous quote from bresson, "sharpness is a bourgeois concept".

Really, really hate people who call photos "clicks". Idiots. Should be neutered.

...

Sorry, but not all of us on here are professionals, or even gifted amateurs:'(

some of of us have wives going:D :-
"why are you lying down to take a photo? "
"come on it freezing , cant you just take a picture without all that faffing around"

600 shots - but of an underestimation in my case:lol:.

hates-
people with no patience for "noobs"
people who go on about you only need to take one shot,
people who say :- 'I take all my shots on manual' --- why spend £4k on a D4 and then turn all the stuff off, just use a pin hole camera if you want "manual"

more:-

people who don't understand the word "budget", as in I have a limited budget and bought these cheap <insert whatever you want here>, how can I use them, and get :-
"chuck them away and buy this £500 <whatever>" instead of helpfull advice.

Mondays after I couldn't get out over the weekend and use my "cheap" kit:(

I'm surprised that with so much apparent hatred in the subject that its possible to run an internet forum as calm and peaceful as this one is.

Either that or the mods are like lightning when it comes to stamping on dissent!

Hate is a word one shouldn't ever use or at least not so often.
And don't you people have better things to do ? :p

I was out yesterday with the 70-200 on my camera and got quite a lot of "I bet that takes good photos", it was great because I got to hand out quite a few business cards :D

funny enough was taking a few shots of my daughter in the forest yesterday with my 70-200 when some people came past and said,"We were going to get our camera out but saw you and decided not to bother." I just smiled and carried on, I just didn't know what to say.

HDR

Apple

People with avatars showing them with cameras in front of their faces. Im a programmer by trade, would holding a keyboard in front of my face make me more credible?

I think most of these 'hates' aren't intended to be taken too seriously, mine certainly aren't something I lose any sleep over. :)

"whats the best lens I could get for £200?"

"find an extra £100 and get this one instead..."

This isnt an option for most people. Hence the budget when asking the original question

I think mis-spelling of "lens" came up in someone's list earlier :lol:

You don't need to be 'professional' to not rely on luck. My point is that if you go out & take a large number of pictures of one thing in the hope that one of them will be a keeper, then you are in no way improving (or even trying to IMO) your photography, you are just hoping for the best.

If your first two hates are aimed at my post:
-I very much have patience for 'noobs', but I will not try to help someone who doesn't want to help themselves.

-I didn't say you only have to make one picture, just that luck shouldn't have a place in photography. A chef won't make loads of pasta dishes hoping that one of them will taste nice.

Nope - nothing was aimed at your post... just saying some of us try very hard and still don't get good shots straight away.
And luck doesn't have a place in "professional" photography, but for some of us, it may be the only way we find out something we didn't know worked in such a way.

New one from me - someone who judges your kit because theirs is "better" but have completely different interests in photography, just because I venture over to sports once in a blue moon does not mean I need a different camera ta very much

;)

(it's just the more we work at it, the luckier we get)

I shoot portraiture in a studio with strobes, could you tell me what setting on my camera I should use to get my money's worth? Obviously manual is a mistake!

Oh my god i can't believe that comment! If you have a business and you can afford the best then why the hell wouldn't you go for the best equipment you can get? There are some even more expensive rigs than top end nikon or canon that offer even less control.
Choose your iso (film or digital). sync, set your lights, meter, Set your aperture....BANG
Change your lights, meter...bang
If i had a phase one with an aptus back i don't think i would ever stop grinning

It's true....why do they do that?:shake:

1. People who stand at the Club Chicane at Thruxton with their big lens firing 9fps every time a car hits the kerb...all day, race meeting after race meeting. I know I shouldn't care what others are doing and it's a completely irrational 'hate', but I just don't understand why anyone gets any enjoyment out of it.

2. The fact that the social aspect of motorsport photography completely died for me when I moved to Micro Four Thirds (from Nikon). My photos barely look any different, but all of a sudden I'm completely ignored/shunned.

3. People who feel the need to 'name' their photography threads here, very common in Motorsport (i.e. "Britcar 24hr - CH Photography"), we can see who posted the pics based on the username, why feel the need to try and 'professionalise' them with a completely irrelevant handle?
