Your Photoblogs - LINKS

Setting up a blog sounds like a good idea, might have to try it. Don't think I can do it on my website though, not with how little traffic I'm allowed... Must upgrade :bang:

Fab thread  I've just bookmarked all the sites and will subscribe to them once i've sorted a reader out :)

I've just got going again after moving from wordpress to pixelpost.

Photoblog here. RSS feed here.

Just yesterday I finished putting together a new photoblog for my website :) Let me know what you think!

Photoblog is at... http://www.JMPhotographic.eu/photoblog

RSS feed is here... http://www.JMPhotographic.eu/photoblog/feed/

All comments & critique are appreciated, I moderate comments before allowing them to be posted but I'm a quick admin so as long as I'm not too busy they should show up pretty quickly. :D

Hi James - the one thing that strikes me is that there's no menu link to galleries, and I'd expect to see that rather than a link to the Photoblog when you're already in it.

Hi Guy,

I don't have a separate galleries section on my website. The closest thing is within the services section http://www.JMPhotographic.eu/ourservices/ where you can view slideshows of each of the areas I specialise in (apart from corporate, that's not up yet!)

I did originally have separate galleries and services sections but decided that it made sense to condense them into one section.

Any and all comments on the site design/layout/structure are welcome as well as images.

Thanks for your input!

James

How about a galleries link in the menu that drops down for each category and then opens a new page.

The one comment I get from clients is that they want to see two things right away - images and costs. They don't like having to look for either.

Ah that's just far too complicated! I'll definitely look into it though. The whole site is built around wordpress so I'm not sure how I would go about adding drop down menus into the header. (I'll start googling now!)

I understand exactly what you mean about clients wanting to view images and costs ASAP. It's definitely important to make the site easy and natural to navigate as well.

On a side note I just checked out your site/blog. Very nice elegant layout/design easy to navigate and fantastic photography ;)

Thanks James, very kind of you.

Mine's on wordpress as well and custom drop-downs are a page - one way is to create pages for each gallery, say, and then add those pages as links in menu header. That's what I did on my galleries pages.

Guy, who did your site? It reminds me very much of Jessica Claire's site, down to the style of the black bar/logo placement. :p I wonder if she is a influence? :)

I did it myself. The logo etc was designed for me.

I've said her site was an influence before.

I have a wordpress one but have currently made it private. I'll sort it over the next few days to make it available again so I can add it to here :)

This thread reminded me I'd taken it offline

I had not even heard of Wordpress until Saturday let alone really known what blogs were for, but have now completely rebuilt my website around it although I don't seem be be able to get rid of wordpress in the address lines I now have a blog at www.Kerioak.com with a whole one entry :)

That's because you put it in the wrong place. You need to move it to the root folder, one up from /wordpress/

Read this.

Very nice Christine, I know that theme, super photos you've chosen for it.

Thanks Kayjay - I read the instructions and tried it - something went wrong along the way and I am having to start from scratch again - still at least I learn something new everytime I do this and might even get it up a bit faster this time :fingers crossed:

Thanks Adam - hopefully it will be back again soon

Edit: yes I backed it up but as I don't have a clue where the pages actually are yet it did not really help. HTML is so much simpler, you make a page, the page is static and you know exactly where it is and should go :)

I have got it back up again, without the wordpress in the middle of every address. Does anyone know how I can make kerioak.com land on the home page of the site and not in the blog please?

Every page and post you create is stored in the wordpress database. You need to back that up too.

Also, if you had a main site in root already you should have said so. Why not just put it all in a folder called blog? Like what you had before but replace wordpress with blog?

Also start a seperate thread. This is for links only.

Judging from the pm I received from you I've somehow offended you by offering advice. I'll remember that.

I can't be anymore helpful unless I build your site for you, in which case you'll need to pay me. :D
