Your most amazing images of 2012

A couple from this year that I was quite pleased with. Here are some awesome professional ballet dancers who were kind enough to indulge me by chucking themselves around a studio for a while. :)
]
They are fantastic shots!

I have done the most photography work of my career so far this year, so it was quite hard to decide on only two photos. I think my favourite shot that I've taken for someone else is this one. I've been working with a theatre company for a while, and this photograph was produced for use as a poster for an upcoming show. The posters were put up online, in shops and around Leicester - I was really pleased with it :)

I've done almost no work for myself this year! I'm working on a big project at the moment but unfortunately it's not finished yet, so here's The Goddess of Spring from earlier on in the year, part of a series called The Seasons.

I've had a shocking year with illness (heart attack at 30!) so not shot very much at all, but lately I've been slowly trying to regain a bit of fitness. Fortunately the Kennet & Avon Canal is on my doorstep, a few days after my Canon 135mm f2 arrived we had a perfect morning for a walk...

It sounds corny, but having something like that happen really does make me go out and enjoy the world around me at every opportunity now (within the limits of my fitness!), I've never seen so much of my local area despite living here all my life.

This thread has some amazing shots, the canal shot i quoted being a credit to the owner!

Comments welcome as i'm always looking to improve....

Crikey it's hard to choose a couple (or three as I couldn't make my mind up!!) My photography has mooved on in leaps and bounds this year with me staring to do portraits and second shooting weddings.

1: Jessica - this was the first outing with the D700 and I now have this as a flyer for the business.

2: Seasons Calling - my young *** started a band and wanted some shoots for promotional stuff. Had a fab time in the peeing rain and ended up with this that they are thinking of using for the album cover.

3: Amy - A friend wanted some pictures of her daughter and this was one of my favorites from the shoot.

And one more as I couldn't resist this one. My son uses the Childrens Hospice in Ipswich and we were invited to a special reception with a young lady who is the new patron. I think she has been togged once or twice this year

I wasn't allowed to take any pictures inside the building but we had a prime spot for the tree planting and well it was a shame not to use the advantage!!

This is my 2nd (i think) post so excuse me if the image fails to come up

These 2 are very important to me, the first being my sister-in-laws wedding in South Africa and the first time i'd ever met my only nephew..

the second, taken at a Victorian themed party last weekend, is of my mum :)

Really enjoying looking through these - covers so many types of photography (tend to hang around landscapes so this makes a nice change!)

This is my favourite photo of the year - looking at the weather forecast means that the only chance of this changing is if I get a great puddle shot next week :)

Firstly I would like to say images in this thread are truly inspirational and continue to fuel my passion in photography so hat's off to each and every one of you.

I joined the forum last year on 03-12-2011, A complete newbie to photography and word's such as Bokeh or abbreviations such as DOF, 2012 has been a great year for me, I would like to think I have progressed and learnt well using the knowledge and advice from so many of you on here and the very helpful tutorials.

If I had too pick images to some up the year (very hard) it would be these:

This one for me was a turning point in my confidence levels.

My favourite shot for someone else was a stock shot for coffee houses and restaurants that has sold many many many times since I took it. I didn't even set out to take that style of shot, but I noticed the ornate cup and saucers during a visit to my parents house and the idea formed from that within about 5 seconds lol. Just made use of nikons CLS to use my flash instead of having to go back to get my studio gear, so a rather bespoke shot!

My favourite personal shot this year is really difficult as I've got far too many to choose from. I've only just broken into "street" and "portrait" photography so I'll probably go with one of those, over my established wildlife and nature stuff:

Taken during my second time in london on the weekend I popped the question to my now fiancé! The day after the aforementioned question, we took a trip down to hyde park with my camera to see the winter wonderland and took a walk around it. The air was very cool but not so cold it was unbearable and the smells and sights all around took our minds off the wind anyway.

Also managed to take this whilst on the trip, which my fiancé loves

I have a few personal favourites from this year as in my second year into the whole photography thing, I feel i've made a lot of progress....

One of my favourites is this shot from Haweswater....out for a truly miserable sunrise on Ullswater that never happened, i thought i'd pop down to Haweswater for a recce....deciding to try and get a higher viewpoint, in the driving rain and wind, the light changed for a split second, and I got this shot....well worth the battering from the elements...

The other one that stands out for me from this year is this slightly different shot of the "classic" Buachaille Etive mor in Glencoe....

The third was of my friend Keigo

I don't really have any amazing images but here are a couple of my favourites from the year that are already an Flickr :)

For someone else:

For myself:

Techically, they were both for someone else - as they were both for the POTY competition earlier in the year, but the first one really qualifies as a "for me" shot, as it had been an Idea I'd been kicking around for the best part of a year before getting my finger out and shooting it.

The second, well - for reasons I don't really want to go into, I just can't bear to have on the wall anymore - it's one of the few photographs of mine that I've actually gone to the trouble of paying for a print of, then binning!

i like this i grabbed on Remembrance weekend i was trying a old
canon a480 point n shoot out i picked up at cash converters
for £7 its looking at the local war memorial from the back

behind it is a fountain i took the shot low down behind the
fountain camera angled up to get the top of the fountain in the foreground
and the memorial in the background.saturation upped

My favourite 'for someone else' started out as just another photo but ended up being published in a magazine. My 1st time so I'm pretty proud even though I'm not a huge fan of the photo.

My favourite for me is a choice of 2. This one which is almost a reshoot of one of my earlier pictures with my D60. It's got the Olympic rings, and unlike the old version, the bridges are centred - something that had been driving me batty with the old one.

or this one. Took it the first night of my holiday in Devon. I love looking at stars and always try and get a good photo of them. I got a few at Kielder a few years ago but didn't manage the Milky Way. Sadly, not knowing Exmoor at all and it being late when we got there we didn't find anywhere with exciting foreground but it's my 1st pic of the Milky Way and I'm proud of it!

My shots could never be classed as amazing but I have a few that I'm really pleased with.

This was taken at the end of the outdoor flying season and was off a friends rc plane with the smoke system on. I'd just got the Sigma 70-200 f2.8 and was trying it out and was really impressed with it.

For personal use I picked some photographs of my family since getting the SLR that I've been happy with. I'm going to cheat a bit and post two. The first is off my wee fella in his school uniform when I nearly got myself in trouble by claiming I could take a better school photograph than the official photographer who had cut his eye in two with the frame of his glasses. Needless to say I'm not going to volunteer for the job as photographing school children must be a nightmare as one was bad enough! I bounced the flash off the wall behind him in manual mode with a defuser so it would change the wall colour from lilac to off white.

Ethan Scott by Exif Data | Stephen Scott, on Flickr

The last is my close family - from left to right my Dad, Mum, sister, bro-in-law, son, wife and myself. It was a bit tricky as for some reason I decided to use the 70-200 (I didn't have a good medium zoom at the time) which meant the camera was on a tripod miles away and camera was on a 10 second timer and meant running back to get into the shot.

Brilliant, brilliant image. Just makes me ask questions about what's going on, who these people are, what their story is? The horizon maybe needs a bit of tweaking ;)

I still haven't taken a photograph that I'm 100% happy with so I've got nothing to submit :-(

Just a personal favourite of mine, well below the standard on here.
