Your company is in the skids, what do you do

Aye, I just found it funny. Perhaps they will sell the jets at a loss or as everyday value, jets.
LOL I can just see them in "Value" colours :D

A company very, very far away from the skids!

Exactly.
They misrepresented profits.
Still made a shed load of money either way.

I think they should livery the plane "Every Little Helps'

I've tried lidl on a few occasions. Shopping there for a few weeks each time. The most recent just last month. For my usual shop I can't see it being any cheaper. They don't always have everything and trying there products can be a gamble.

I'm a bit perplexed at lidl and aldi's recent growth.

In LIDLs and Aldi you dont have to operate the checkout yourself. Good enough reason to go there for me, cant stand the self service bloody things.

The only problem Ive found is with their fresh bread and rolls and pastries. Some of the clientele of less than perfect hygiene habits just have to have a good maul of the rolls etc before always putting it back and picking up a different one. <shudder>

The number of manned checkouts far outnumber the number of self service checkouts in every mainstream supermarket I've ever been in.

The £15k at cost of Tesco shares I have in my retirement (income) portfolio has fallen somewhat …… which is a bit of a b****r

indeed. for smaller shops (under 10 items) the self service channels are much faster however.
Not for me they aren't :(
By the time I've done the "authorisation needed"
Unauthorised item in bagging area (Oh no there wasn't :( )
Do you wish to continue (of course I f*****g do you stupid machine)
And the bar code not reading, I would have been quicker to get in a queue.

I hate technology and the feeling seems to be mutual.

True...unless there an unexpected item in the bagging area ;) :rage::runaway:

so what do you reckon - would you buy Tesco shares at today's prices?

the key is not to put anything unexpected in the bagging area ;)

slamming stuff down often causes bother too.

depends on the store though. asda and sainsburys are generally okay, B&Q's are absolutely useless.

The thing is though I don't slam stuff down or put "other stuff" in the bagging area, I always talk nicely to the machine,
have you had a nice day, how's the wife & kids etc.
But to no avail :(
They just hate me, they see me coming and think right I'll "have this one"

I'm talking about Tesco BTW.
Both the express and the super store.

The unexpected item in the bagging area usually turns out to be...a bag.
I use the canvas ones and little miss unexpected doesn't like them

I also found out that if you swipe something and them put it straight in your pocket,
instead of in the bagging area, that really p***es her off too :D

I bought some more at 190p a couple of weeks ago……. but they are already down to 176p

"never catch a falling knife" as the saying goes
Buy some more. They will go up.
"The value of your shares can fall as well as plummet"

They could be in terminal decline a la Northern Rock.

(And yes, I did)

IMHO

at 170p the shares are down to the company's asset value ….. which because they are valued on an historic cost basis could be undervalued

As long as they keep making profits, and Tesco's profits are enormous, they will always be well placed to recover

but stranger things have happened

The plane - they would have bought it in US $'s - depending on the exchange rates they could make a £ profit when they sell it

Share prices might continue to drop, but unless you're trying to shift them you haven't lost a bean.
You've got to be nuts if you think Tesco will fail simply because of some misdeclared accounting.
Just hang on to the shares and you're golden.

Tesco - I'm quite happy with my investment - had some good divis in the past - I'm retired so bought them for long term income.
By conventional measures they are now cheap and "creative accounting" has always be quite "common" in large UK companies - all works out in the wash and is the result of the short term, (annual performance), measures that the financial boys, who speculate rather than invest, demand. The same with currencies, 90%, (I think), of all transactions are non trade, i.e. currency trading, rather than for payment of goods and services.

Teso up 3.4% today ……….. Mmm ….. should have followed my gut feeling at 9am

There ought to be a claws in the forum rules preventing rubbish cat jokes

people used to say that about woolworths ... look how well that turned out

Actually there was once, but there-by hangs a tail :D

Absolutely but Woolies was badly run, ceased to profit and began hemorrhaging capital.
Tesco just fudged some numbers to impress folk and got caught. They're still making money hand over fist :-)

Nope, sorry, I cant seen any feline puns at all in that last post. Very poor show.

So if you had bought them a few days ago at £.1.70 would you be selling now that they're at £1.89? Or would you be saying, I'll just wait to see if they hit £2. Oh sh** they've dropped down to £1.65.

This morning - Tesco (TSCO) 189.00p +3.50%

170p a few days ago - that cat must have been a "high jumper"

A moggie in a polo neck....

I think the asset value is nearer 134p and 50% of those assets are the buildings themselves. Still a long way to fall I reckon. I'd follow Warren ;)
