This is about the limit of cost i can stretch to so I am thinking of getting this for mainly the motorsport side of my photography and keep the 70-300 and kit lens for the rest of the time, as it is the 70-300 rarely comes off the camera.

So your thoughts please and advice and any possible pitfalls. ta.

The 500mm is the main reason to give me the extra reach i find myself wanting at events such as Silverstone, Brands and my latest passion of banger racing.lol. Also could be used in other areas but motorsport is going to be primary.

Thanks as always.

I have the slightly older version ie the one without the DG extra. I'm very happy with it as I've used it at Brands Hatch and at last years Goodwood Revival. Have a look in this gallery link below and look at some of the racing and the Spitfire shots as they were taken with my 500mm.

Hope that helps

Works out a couple of pounds cheaper than Onestop with the same vat payback guarantees. I've never used URGalaxy but have been tempted a few times and their feedback is good.

Anybody got any other comments on lens. Have a lot of people used onestop and does their VAT reclaim thing work??

thanks

I've used them once, didn't have to pay any import duty that time. They declare the package as a gift which is naughty but means that more times than not it gets past customs without a hitch. Took about a week from purchase to delivery..

Cool I am thinking of buying from them as they seem more established than from Ebay but didn't know if people had used them or what they were like.

I notice this lens isn't USM or HSM will this make a big difference, could it be quite noisy? Can anybody say if it is quick to focus?

Is it the HSM that makes it fast focusing or does that just make it quieter focusing?

I did look at this lens but had read the range of zoom may be too much for one lens all the way from 50 to 500, plus i have a 70-300 so the lower zoom range is not as important, I am going to be mainly at the long end of the zoom.

Do you find it to be a sharp lens? Any pics?

Thanks for your help and sorry for all the questions.
