I would imagine it is generally awash for rubbish. But guess there must be a few gems on it.

So recomendations for beginners to learn the basics? What does what type of things, do this and this happens, How to take "good" pictures. Type of videos

I found some "lessons" relating to a Uk mag from 2010 called Practical photography that you sign up to on the web but would probably need to buy the back issues also. Anyone done this?

I always liked Gavin Howey's channel is pretty good and as Ploddles said Adorama is very good too.

Gav's vids are all on Adorama now IIRC.

I would second Greg Cazillo and fro knows photo having found them useful in the past. They both shoot Nikon but it was fine for me as they make it clear to understand, regardless of the gear. They just reference Nikon. Most cameras are the same anyway, well the principles are.

I've watched and used several Gavin Hoey videos; and i'd reccommend him for his simple non-patronising teaching methods.

I really like this channel ^ and I have picked up some really good tips from it.

Plus (as I'm from Ireland) I find John's accent and some of the phrases he uses etc. add a little touch of comedy to the videos. :D

:plusone:

I think he's good enough that, if mainstream television was to televise a photogaphy and photoshop techniques programmme, he'd be the natural presenter on it.

Found this helpful as it will save me going through thousands of videos in order to find the decent ones.

I have one of the Karl Taylor dvd's and found it helpful as a starting point, so might be worth checking his stuff out.

Another vote for Dom bower photography here, he has some great no nonsense videos

You've probably settled on a favourite by now but here's another big vote for Jared Polin (FroKnowsPhoto.com).

Really cool, genuine guy who also offers loads of Lightroom tutorials as well as general photography advice and product reviews.

Although becoming a bit more mainstaream now, if you watch the video about how he got started in photography and teaching it's for all the right reasons.

I've learned 99% of the stuff I now know becasue of his YouTube site.

Enjoy!

subscribing to this thread. some awsome recomendations.

i recommend digitelrev purely for some banter but Kai does teach you a few tricks as well though
