I have spent several weeks running the freezer down, which I do about 3 times a year anyway, so last night I did an online shop with extra 'fresh' freezer stuff, and the bulk of stuff for 2 christmas dinners/days [we are having a sort of xmas day this sunday as daughter/grandson are staying here, he'll be with the 'other half of family' for the real one], so only really fresh veg to buy again next week which I will do locally anyway and you know what, I managed spend a grand total of about £60 more than I would normally on this post freezer depletion exercise. That includes a pair of free range chickens and a chuffin great big lamb joint. If I need extra bits the day after Boxing day, the shops are all open again, so frankly cba battling my way round the supermarkets, it's madness.
Mind you, I don't like going to the supermarket at any time of year, online shopping has been awesome and rarely experienced any issues either, always get good fresh food when I order it, replacements are normally good ones, and the drivers have always been excellent. I know not everyone has had it so positively. I even organised a click and collect a few weeks ago at a local tube station, and got a phone call a couple of hours before asking if they could deliver because I was the only one in that 4 hour slot and saved having 2 guys sitting around for up to 4 hours. That was a normally £6 time slot, delivered free
Having said that, I do love 2 things... one is rifling through the remaindered section in my local Tesco at around 8-9pm when they have just filled it and the other is pretending supermarkets don't exist and aren't very convenient and heading for the local farm shop, which reminds me so much of the local grocers when i was kid
