How often do you have it with you?

I don't mean "it's in the car when I'm out, so I can pop to the car if I need it" or "it's in the house when I am" I mean physically with you, no further than arms reach?

For me it's amost constantly. It lives in it's bag right next to "my seat" and goes almost everywhere with me. In less than a year it's become a really big part of my life. I've found that when I don't take it with me when I'm out and about that I wish I'd had it with me.

Never. :(

I live in a student house and I don't have the space to keep the camera and its associated paraphernalia with me so it stays at my parents house, thus only presenting the opportunity to take it out once every few weeks. Now I'm thinking of moving it to the student house and getting some urban photography done in the next few weeks.

If im going somewhere in my car then I generally take it with me just incase.
It sits at home during the day when I am at work

Normally my gear sits at home unless specifically going out to take photos :shake:
I keep meaning to take it to work, as i work all over the place, but I just feel wary putting it in the van especially with some of the clumsy lot I have work with me.

One of the joys of my camera is that with the 20mm pancake it's small enough to take everywhere with you without it being a burden at all. :)

only when needed or generally when scouting locations... if on a scout i travel with just a 50mm prime attached.

I'm considering a compact camera to have with me all the time, something that will attach to my bat belt.

It's always in my bag whether I'm goin to college(photog.) or work, or when I'm out and about..

Generally 99% of the time since my camera bag is the bag I take everywhere with me for uni, going to the shops, walking supplies and other random events.

Camera bag is alway with me when I'm not working, not that I've had the opportunity to stop yet but just in case...

Only when I make a point of taking it out, got enough baby stuff to carry around.

Far to much

I have it on me at College.

I have it on me at Work.

My spare time is photography.

When I am driving it is on my passenger seat.

So yeah, quite a lot

sits at home in my bedroom till i need it usualy my photography is planned(reading half marathon today)

I have my D200 + kit lens and the AFS105f2.8 in a peli case in the car/van whilst I am at work all day plus when I go out I have it or the D700 with me and usually more lenses. My poor IXUS500 died on me so I don't have a p&s anymore. It was a canon though ;) Joking apart I really do like Canon's p&s cameras, not sure what to replace it with so I can have a camera in my pocket most of the time.

I carry a compact with me at all times, if I am working in a new city I will take something bigger, but during the summer I take more gear to work as I can go out for walks in the evening it beats the pub every night

I barely ever take the camera out unless i'm going out with the intention of taking pics. Hence, barely any of my flickr photos are cool 'spontaneous' ones

Canon G-series? Or would it be a bit too bulky?

Not sure, I really want something with decent quality that is SMALL. Would prefer something as small as the IXUS500. They did do another IXUS afterwards which was the IXUS5 that was even smaller though!

I have so many cameras there is bound to be one near me where ever I go but rarely at arms reach.

I carry a compact in the car all the time. When I'm on-site working it's usually in my pocket or bag.

The D90 lives at home most of the time unless I'm specifically going out to shoot or think that I might see something interesting on the way to/from a job; then I carry it in the boot. Out of sight of any scrotes that might take a fancy to it :-)

I cycle most places - riding the bike and carrying an expensive camera plus lenses not always the best thing. Sometimes the D40 comes out with me in a rucksack. If I'm going to shoot something and have no other way of getting there, then I will take D80/90.

I'm probably been over protective of my kit!

However, I've been full of lurgy for about two weeks and one net effect of this has meant taking the train, carrying the camera with me and taking many more pictures. Oh and time spent at home lurgified put to good use learning photoshop!

The net result of which, has been producing nice candids such as
this.

I have my Lumix round my neck 24/7, out of view when I'm in the street, of course. Doubt I'd be able to do that with my SLR when I get it though..

At first I used to take it everywhere, but now after a year of photography I know what types of pictures I like to take and as such I leave the camera at home. I'll have something planned every weekend, so it's still getting a lot of use :)

Pretty much always with me througout the week (but since I use it for work I guess that's cheating).

However, I don't get the opertunity during the week to use it for anything other than work.

At the weekends I tend to pick it up before headout to places of interest (not the local town).

I've started using a film camera and I currently prefer it over the digital, once i've had the first film developed I will decided if I'm going to continue using it.

Sometimes I have my D90 with me if I plan to take photographs, but other times I just use my Nokia N97.

for example when I'm out clubbing with mates at the weekend I don't want to cart around big expensive kit, then end up being paranoid about it all night

the N97 fits this task quite nicely and I can use it while drunk. FTW

Almost always got some sort of camera within reach, whether it's a camera phone, copact or (D)SLR.

I'm in a hospital 90% of my working day and having a big dslr would really be bothersome even though there are some really cool shots that could be taken. Even a P&S would be difficult to carry around with all the things in a whitecoat.

it sits on my desktop pc, although i wanna take it out abit more!

I don't cart it around with me everywhere but will take it when I know I will use it. Otherwise my little ixus just does the job instead. I think that life is sometimes just too short to cart a DSLR round every day!

what about the unexpected occasion photos though? for eg ill take the kids into town and there is an emergency services recruitment drive going on at the clock tower.. perfect opportunity to get a pic of the lad next to a fire engine etc....

those shots don't happen everyday, and I certainly wouldnt go out with the intention of getting that shot, but its a great photo for the lad and if I didnt have a camera with me it would be a missed opportunity and so where I go a camera goes.

Only when needed really - I know I should keep it with me all the time and when I'm 'at work' I do...
But the inconvenience of dragging two bodies and a bunch of lenses around everywhere is just too much.
Sometimes I'll take a body and a short zoom along if I'm feeling creative, but if I'm just going to Tesco's, then no - it stays in the bag at home.

I have something with the ability to take pictures with me at all times.

Today I have a Samsung cameraphone in my pocket and a Canonet rangefinder and Nikon DSLR in my bag.

All that and I have taken the princely total of 1 photo.

When I go away for a survey I always take a large bag with me.

During the week and other times, like going for a meal, to the pub etc I will have my GF1 with me.

To be honest – usually only when I am going on a specific outing where I know I will be using it.

I’d like to take it with me “just in case” but I would be far too worried to leave it in the car just in case it got broken into.

I do need to get in the habit of carrying a compact around with me more often though. I’d really like to upgrade from my Ixus 85 with the intention of using it a lot more when out and about.

I have a Crumpler half photo bag so always have my camera with me and put my other day to day bits in the top, really not that hard to take around with me when I would have a bag anyway.

Agree on the "if i don't have it could miss a photo" opinion, hopefully got a few nice shots of the fog we had this morning :)
