Yorkshirecameras.com | Fraudulent - avoid!

Hi all,

I hope the mods won't take this post down or infract me for it, but I would like to clarify something. I have recently started my own business in photographic retail called "West Yorkshire Cameras" in Huddersfield which is not in any way related to the apparently fraudulent "Yorkshire Cameras" which I discovered after a quick search on this forum.

Hopefully anyone else that discovers this thread will read this post and not be put off by it. I am not writing this as an advert, this is purely clarification of an unfortunate coincidental name.

Thanks
Nick

I thought it was strange to get this thread up again when the police have already done so much work to shut down 'Yorkshire Cameras'. Good luck with your business and I hope the name wont be too tainted for future trading.

For those interested, the police have found the person who set up the account and he agreed to sign the rights of the account to the fraud dept of the police. Forensic accountants are still sifting through the account and any money paid into the account from the day the police stopped the account will be paid back to people eventually (or so I've been reliably informed), though when that will be is anybodys guess.

Yes I acan confirm that this site is 100% FAKE!!! I was looking for a 24-70mm f2.8 found one here at silly price!! The site is really convincing!! I enetered 3 different sets of card details when it finally clicked!! A google later and i was gutted all 3 cards cancelled and the B******s had the cheek to send me this!!!!

Interesting that the boys in blue have caught up with the person involved. Finally!

Any ideas who to contact with regards to the outside chance of getting some money back?

It's odd that this thread resurfaced as only today I binned my police report from when I got stung! I've fished it back out albeit with some of the kids fish fingers stuck to it !

Hi Captain, from what I've been told by the officer who took my statement and was involved in breaking the case the accountants have all the details of the people involved and will contact you eventually if there is any money due back to you. A lot of it will depend on what date you ordered and whether the account had been stopped before your order or after. They aim to refund the accounts scammed so I hope you've still got the account open.

My order was placed around 3 weeks after the account had been stopped (for withdrawal purposes) but until they got the account holder (who was innocent regarding the scam- he'd been forced to hand his account details over by threats of violence) and got his permission to actually close the account and hand the funds to the accountants. I'm hoping I eventually get something returned but it has been a while since I last heard anything. Apparently though, the amount of money involved was well into the hundreds of thousands, and well into the hundreds of people, so it'll take a while to sort it all out.

Good luck on getting a refund too, if I get all mine back I might put a bit towards it and get a new Canon 24-70 f2.8L MkII.

Hi Modchild,

I made my 'error' back in may '11 when the account was still open. The police looked into it and I spoke with someone in CID who was aware of it, but I forget his name. At the time they said kiss goodbye to seeing any money as the chances are its already been withdrawn to an overseas account in Lithuania!

I think I paid £350 so it would be nice to see some of it back, but I won't hold my breath.
