I was wondering if anybody here has had experience of the above mentioned flash unit (the ones Flash in the pan sells)

Was thinking I might use one in conjunction with a umbrella soft box and also have my 580EXII for any onboard duties and where I might need more power.

Any comments?

I have 2 off fitp, cant fault them.

used them through a softbox on my shoot at the weekend worked really well and a million times better than my old jessops flashs as they didnt have any power control.

recycle speed is great at low power but can take a while at full power (could be due to my batteries though).

personally im very happy with them.

I use one of these flashes in conjunction with my 580ex, you should be fine using the two together. If your using the YN460 as key light, you will find you have to set your 580ex on a pretty low power setting given the power of it compared to the YN460. (YN460 GN 33 and 580ex 58 I think?)

I would personally use the 580 as your keylight especially if its going to be fired into a softbox thats reducing the power, then use your YN460 as fill. You will be using everything in manual anyway so it wont be like your losing ttl ability.

Set up correctly, they will work fine.

Bit of a side query here... do these flashes have a power-down timer or something similar?
I use Jessops flashes which do have manual control (the 360AFD) but they turn themselves off after 90seconds of no activity which is awkward if they're off-camera.

I think its like 30 mins... I would need to check though

EDIT:

After some reading its hard to nail down a definite answer short of me leaving mine turned on and seeing what happens lol. However the general consensus seems to be in normal mode power down is after 30 mins, and 60 mins if its in optical mode. I know I have never had mine power down on a shoot after some standing around time.

someone please feel free to correct me if they know otherwise :)

I've got one, also have an SB600 which I use manually. It's really good, recycle times are pretty quick for me (I use Duracell rechargeables). You can't fine-tune the power as much as with the SB600, but tbh I've never found that too much trouble - you still have 6 (I think( different levels of power which has been fine with me. It comes with a bounce card which can be quite useful.

For the money it really is the bargain of the century I'd say...makes you wonder how much the expensive ones cost to make!

I recently got a couple of these to backup my 580s/430s for OC work, and at under £40 a pop, I think they’re great. Only time will tell about the build quality of these units but at that price you can’t go wrong.

The other thing I like about cheaper equipment is that you can be more adventurous without worrying too much about it getting damaged :)

Nice one... 30mins or 60mins is still a lot longer than 90 seconds! Cheers, going to have to put an order in with FITP now.
