Hello, i have currently got a Yongnuo YN-460 flash unit, works fine, use it mostly for skateboarding and the odd portrait. But have been getting increasingly interested in Still Life photography, have been using on board flash to fire the flash to try and get a even light, but want more control.

So ive only got a small budget but what flash should i get next?
YN-460 II for £35
YN560 for £35
YN560 II for £50
or something for a similar price?

Want to buy a small soft box and umbrella for the flashes

and i already have the Yongnuo CTR 301P, triggers.

YN560. An absolute steal at that price.

Have you considered the Neewer TT520 and TT560? Available on Amazon for £25-30. Broadly similar power and features, but cheaper.

Just a thought...

No they don't, although they do have the wide angle diffuser.

I've just acquired the TT560 and it works perfectly adequately as a background flash (which is all I wanted it for), but I use my Nikon SB800 where I need more fine grained control.

But as a second flash to be used in a umbrella etc. will i have enough control?

I can't imagine you'd have a problem. I've never felt the need to adjust the zoom level when using an umbrella, but this is with the caveat that I'm quite new to studio photography.
 
To be honest, I have 3 of the yn 560ii flashes and I wish they had the same controls as the 560. I hate the lcd screen its a bloody stupid idea to have a screen that's only readable when your facing it, drives me up the wall,I even use a mirror now to see what its set at if its up high etc. The 560 had reliability issues which put me off but I think it has a more sensible display.
 
I just got myself a Neewer TT520 for my Canon 60D. Unfortunately it apprears to be incompatible even though it says on the amazon website that it will work with this camera. Looks like it will be going back to Amazon. Very disappointed although its probably my fault as I should have realised that something costing less than £25 would be too good to be true.

In what way do you consider it to be incompatible?
It's a manual only flashgun, and is compatible with any Canon, Nikon, Olympus or Pentax camera
 
Well firstly let me apologise for not posting a reply before now. Anyway when I had the flash attached to the camera I kept getting error messages saying that the camera was not switched on, which it was, or is incompatible. I sent it back to Amazon and will try another brand.
