i have one of the above, not sure if this is normal but the zoom setting on the rear always reads 14mm except when i first turn it on then it reads 70mm but changes immediately to 14mm and it doesnt alter regardless of what the lens is at. any help much appreciated. also can someone tell me what pressing the light button and the mode button together does, i have read the manual but its not very clear ...broken english i think.
thank you
Bill

The first, you have the diffuser down, which is designed for the wide setting, so the flash zooms to that.

The mode and HSS buttons pressed together change the group the flash is a member of, in your remote flash settings you set the ratios for groups.

Phil thanks for the reply, i tried it with the diffuser down and up the zoom setting didnt change for either one.

Was the flash on camera?

It'll not change automatically off camera as there's no need for it to. On camera the flash zoom matches the focal length, off camera the zoom needs changing to match the subject distance or modifier. In fact the zoom setting changes even on camera if you tilt the head.

yes thats my point it was on the camera and didnt change at all, because i havent used this make of flash before i thought it must have been something i did

i have just looked at my purchase details and the flash is advertised as being for nikon.....i thought it was universal am i right or could i have the wrong flash, i am using a 450d and a 7d btw

It's not a universal flash, it's an ETTL unit and made for either Nikon or Canon, looks like you may have the Nikon one. Have a look at the box, it should state which one there.

oh dear think i might have a nikon one, i really didnt think it mattered i thought flashes were universal, oops could be an expensive error

If it's a recent purchase and you're prepared to pay the postage, they should swap it for you.
