I've just received one of these flash guns of the bay (got it for £44 posted).
I know it won't live up to the likes of a canon 430EX or 580EX.
I only need something for basic flash work, would this do the trick?
It was to good an offer to miss and have read a few comments saying they are ok.

It's very capable, don't let the price fool you. It's how you use it that makes the difference - bit of learning and practise

for small strobist kind of work there great :), couple of drawbacks, not a great deal of power, not the fastest reload times, but as said, when used right with the right light modification infront, they can be very effective

my thoughts on the power is you could buy two of these guns, tape them together on the flash-head.. and bingo I'd wager far more power than Canon or Nikon's top of the range flashes and faster recycle times! I'm going to buy 2 of the 460s for like £85 which is nothing compared to £220 for a SB-600. I reckon 6 YN-460s might give a little more light than a SB-600 ;).

Or increase the ISO by one stop, or reduce the f/number by one stop. Or do both and you've got the equivalent of four guns :D

Sounds like ti could be good for what I need then!
I've been looking at batteries for it, I've been looking at rechargeables rated at 2100Mah and 2800Mah. I'm presuming these would be the best to get for power and life?

A good all round flash with ettl support.
Indoors the flash is never off the camera and it seems to meter well for the subject.
Its also handy for fill in flash and generally better than an onboard flash.
If you want full ettl metering on a budget with simple controls and manual override you can't go wrong.

Good entry level flash. Nothing special, just solid device on the budget.

Sounds good, seems a better choice than others in the similar price range!
