Had a really rubbish week so far, feeling a bit low, and then all of a sudden the big boss calls me up to his office and sits me down to offer me a new job - stone me, couldn't believe it!!

Anyway, to cut a long one short, he's of the opinion that photography is an element of the business that we rely on totally to sell our mags and he wants me to move from the editorship of my current magazine to become head of photography - crazy news!!

It's something I mooted a few years ago but the idea never took off. Now, he's totally hanged his opinion of things and feels that because I have a lot of experience in togging, I should work across all of our titles as the chief photographer, shooting a much wider range of stuff than I'm currently doing.

Told the missus and she was understandably hesitant – we have a baby on the way – before congratulating me on getting my dream job. The guys on my team are understandably a bit gutted at me moving but they were chuffed to bits and my line manager is stoked at the though of me doing it.

No extra money (but that's not the the be-all-and-end-all) but I will have total freedom to do what I want to do, progressing photography within the company and being the guy everyone will now need. Couldn't be better.

Now, just have to persuade him to invest in a bit of new kit for myself – a D300, a couple of SB800s and a 300mm VR would be very welcome indeed :)

Just thought i'd share that :) :

congratulations!

Congrats - as pointed out money isn't everything but getting the same money for a more enjoyable job is fantastic

Excellent news - well done I hope it works out for you

Remember any new equipment bought for work use will need extensive testing and/or training. If this means taking it home to use over the weekend then so be it.

Steve.

Nice on dude! And awesome timing too! Now wheres the third piece of good news?

Well done, you've obviously worked hard to get your dream job so congratulations - and further congrats for the baby on its way.

Bloody Hell, Congrats mate, well please for you and the Special Family :D

Great news indeed. Always good to see talent recognised.

chief photographer over a number of titles? I can see some work experience applications coming your way.......

Well Done.

Cheers guys :) It's still sinking in, working out what I need to sort out by Friday when I officially leave my current position - talk about working quickly!!!

Seriously need to look at kit requirements, especially when it comes to long lenses (which we've hired in the past) but nonetheless, it's going to be a great challenge and regardless of what happens kit-wise, it means I can take photographs 24/7 and not have any hassle to do with budgets, staff management etc - I am truly a one-man operation and my own boss... sweet :)

(also means I get more cover shot opportunities - even better :))

Congratulations

Now go and "suggest" that a D3 or D700 would be a better investment for the firm in the long run :naughty:

Last day in my current job tomorrow - start Monday. Still haven't had the okay on the £6000 worth of kit I've asked for though.... will probably end up with a bag full of Tesco process-paid disposables!! :)

wooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

well done sounds awesome
