Yes
I'm off to the Alps and Pyrenees fairly shortly, and will be taking all my gear with me. I have a Lowepro Slingshot 200AW, into which I manage to fit the following:

50D + 3 batteries, one charger
100-400 L and hood
24-105 L and hood
10-20 Sigma and hood
Nifty Fifty
Set of 3 extension tubes
SLR Zoom gorilla pod
430 EX2 Flash, plus spare batteries
Netbook and Charger
Assortment and filters, CF cards and cleaning cloths.

...and I'm very happy with that!

Now, here's the problem: When I leave the campsite and head up ino the mountains, I also have to take an 8 month old in a back carrier... The wife carries baby-minding stuff (dunno what's in that bag, but it's apparently important..), so I can't get her to carry anytihg useful.

I'm not expecting to be able to take my full kit uphill with me, but I would like to take, as a minimum, the 50D, 1 spare batt and memory, 24-105L and if possible the 10-20. Backpacks are out, because baby has to go there. Are any of the belt-mounted bags gonna take that and still be stable? Chest mounted, if that exists? Anybado got any thoughts?

Perhaps I'm asking a little much.

FWIW, I work with a 24v cordless drill, hammer and 18v impact driver hanging off my belt, so the weight here shouldn't pose too much of an issue.

The Lowepro "Toploader AW 70/75W Zoom" might be worth a look :|.

I have one and it can take my Nikon D700 with a 70-300mm lens and has plenty of room for batteries, filters, memory cards etc. and comes with a built-in water/snowproof cover and a chest harness.

It's designed as a shoulder bag, so you if you do get to offload "Jr." at any point ;), you can carry it normally too.

Only downside to this bag is that you're not going to be able to get another long lens into it (safely) :(. A 50mm prime, maybe, but nothing more.

Here's a link for you ...

That looks spot on; do you by any chance know if the 70 comes with a chest harness?? The amazon link says the 75 does, but I see no mention of it on the other sizes.

I'm guessing that the 75 is excessively deep for just a 24-105L. Do you reckon I could get the 10-20 in there as well, suitably protected?

Thanks guys.

Well, I have the 75W, so I can't be 100% certain about the 70W coming with the harness, but the Lowepro website says that it is included.

The good thing about the slightly deeper 75W, is that it is supplied with velcro-fit internal dividers, on of which can be used to sit underneath the front end of the lens, thereby creating another "pocket" underneath for a smaller lens :).

As I don't know how big your camera and zoom lens together are, nor how big the other lens is, I can't really say if the will fit :|. The best thing would be to find one in a shop and check it out for yourself. Failing that, go by the internal dimensions listed here on their website (Link ...), as they look to be pretty precise.

Good luck! :)

or a third option (which I have taken) is to order one from amazon (using your link), and try it out. If it doesn't suit it can go back to them unused. It should be with me on Tuesday!

Many thanks for your input, looks like I am sorted.

My pleasure ;).

I think you'll be impressed with the build quality of the bag. It has very robust stitching, chunky zips and very strong, metal catches and D-rings. The front pocket is great for batteries and memory cards and is also just big enough for a mobile phone, or GPS (in my case ;)). There are internal pockets and compartments too, ideal for filter boxes, a (smallish) flash gun, or whatever else you can cram down the side of the lens.

It's worth taking some time to re-position the internal dividers, to get the maximum protection for you particular camera, as well as to get the maximum amount of gear in there.

I've never used mine with the chest harness (not having any portable offspring to consider :p), so I can't comment on that aspect of it.

Let us all know what you think of it, when it arrives :).
