Yet another stealth price rise on Smoking

Steering this topic off course a bit (like I usually do), have you noticed how a normal sized packet of washing power then become a smaller "economy size" while retaining the same price - while at the same time the larger "family size" packet has slowly shrunk to what is now the size of a normal packet - but still as the same price as when it was the large family size.
And it seems to be getting that way with most goods these days (eg, the "normal sized" Mars Bar which is closer to being the tiny "fun size" and the "larger" twin pack is now the same size as the normal version - yet they are slowly costing more).
PS: I'm a non smoker, by the way.

TBH I hadn't noticed the packet sizes, as I tend to by the liquids.
But the Mars bars certainly, they were huge and really good value for money.
TBH I don't really like the taste any more.
And that of course is per the other thread,
where I said, has it really gone to hell,
or is it our taste buds maturing?

this sort of post has a massive irony
you can hold whatever opinion you like - but if someone disagrees with it they have an equal right to their opinion and to disagree with yours... thats essentially what forums are for.
The Ukip thread is a classic example of this - various pro ukippers have the arse because others have dared to disagree with them , anfd are arguing that their views/actions are being dismissed , while being equally dismissive of the view point that says UKIP are incorrect.

IIRC, I gave up cigs when the budget made a packet (of 20!) £2.50. Gave the rest of the pack I was on to the apprentice and haven't had a ciggie since. Had a couple of puffs on a cigar about 10 years ago and didn't much enjoy them (supposedly a good cigar but wasted on me!) About 32 years ago, I was on about 60 a day...

I used to smoke 60 to 70 a day, but gave up the day Denis Healey put them up to a pound a packet, now they are around £8 a packet I cannot understand how anyone can afford this antisocial unhealthy habit. You only have to see one person in the last stages and then die from lung cancer to really make you see sense.
Still the one good thing is the amount of tax all you smokers are paying into the exchequer and then dying before you are old enough to draw your pensions you all paid into, its a win win for the rest of us

I have never understood how a Mars bar which is smaller than standard can be considered to be more fun.

I personally now prefer the mini Mars bars (or TBH, their Lidl equivalent!) since it's far easier to stick to a smaller portion than to try to have just 1/3 or 1/2 a full size one. Even the fun size ones are now a fairly rare treat to myself. At school my daily intake would include (but not be restricted to...) 2 Mars bars, 2 Texan bars and a 1 litre bottle of Coke. No wonder I wasn't surprised to be (mis)diagnosed as Type II Diabetic a couple of years ago!
