Sunday night - ordered 4 x 12" x 8" prints from Jessops - the two "Getting ready ones" in another thread of mine and two copies of Belfast City Hall requested by a facebook friend and a colleague.

no I have an A4 printer, but need to install the canon EZ software onto pc to make it easy to print, so for ease used Jessops.

Would have been fine if they had printed 12" x 8".

Instead they used slightly smaller paper and somehow managed to clip edges off things.

Collect them instore - "nothing we can do about it really mate"
"I am not your mate, and there are many things you can do"

It's trivial. People at work loved the pics and no one noticed the clips - but I did! I blame TP in making me hypercritical of pics!!:lol:

My brother went in this evening to get a print as part of a gift to our parents on their wedding anniversary. He had an A1 frame and asked the guy what the best size to print the picture he wanted was.

I was at work so had no idea what picture he was using, turns out it was a scan of an old picture taken off Facebook and was 265x235 96dpi :gag:, not exactly a good source photo but my brother doesn't know anything about photography, hence why he asked the guy.

What he ends up with is an A1 print  with a border and no offer to trim it, so it doesn't fit the frame and obviously is incredibly blurred due to the massive up-scaling of the source file. The guy behind the counter was quite insistent it would be ok :cuckoo:

lol... ouch!

These were 7.5 Mb files (16 mpix converted to B&W.) My sensor is a 1.5 Crop. All I ask is "Print what I send you, and no I don't want you to faff with it!"

to be fair to them, they did offer to do it in shop on an hour service for free as a replacement... "For hour, I batted them down to here and now whilst I wait... see you tomorrow."

You probably spent longer arguing the toss with the Jessops monkey than it would have taken to install the software and print... :cuckoo:

You shouldn't need the canon software just the driver.

But for record used to use jessops for yonks for our prints and were pretty reliable until the manager left and the quality went downhill. You just have to pre-crop if any required for 7x5 or 10x8 etc

yes I understand that, but 12 x 8 is a 3:2 ratio, the same as my sensor... so no need to crop a thing... they still managed to fcuk it up though!!!

HOw? no idea. But I promise you they did.

Spent hours a couple of days ago restoring an image of the wife's dad and a friend of his, it had got badly affected over time and I had brought it back really well.
She took the CD into Tescos ... the resultant photos came back with her dad and 1/2 a friend!

you said they printed it smaller than 12x8? if its not the right size paper then fair do, if thats the only size they do then crop away :)

yes the paper is marginally smaller than 12 x 8 (11 7/8 by 7 15/16) so near enough to the 1.5 ratio - so I don't see how they chopped bits off...

next time use someone like DSCL, they deliver pretty quickly so in total time take would probably be less than arguing with jessops

Heh, unless prints go missing in the post in which case expect over a month of being run around in circles until they agree to reprint.
