The RAC this time.
I've been a member it seems about 15 years, and maybe used them twice in that time, once for me and once for a car I was traveling in as a passenger.
Last years was £141 for the "full Monty" and that was after a battle I might add,
This year came in at £189!
Phoned to cancel as green flag are £112.

They agreed to match last years price, Not good enough I say.
So you can drop 48 quid, just like that? why not offer me the best price in the first place?
Its ok no need to answer that, you were planning on me not checking weren't you?
Had you came back with last years price, for renewal, I *may* not have checked.
So Thanks but no thanks, Cancel and good bye.....

2 minutes later they called me back :D
Loyalty bonus added and 15 months for the price of 12, £121!

Well no point in cutting off my nose to spite my face was there? :D

McAfee are my favourite, but with breakdown cover i been on new Dacias for a few years so its included.

Rac are terrible for it. Tried to put ours up a significant amount until we argued a new customer could get the same deal fro 150 quid less. They didn't put up much of a fight either.

No reward for customer loyalty in anything these days.

AA were the worst. From memory £30ish up to £450 despite going from zero to 30% no claims bonus. Told then where to stick it!!! Then direct line trying to rip me off on house insurance by increasing by 33%.

I get mine through my insurance I.e LV who do Britannia recovery AND they also cover my caravan on it

Whilst on RAC - can someone simply tell me what I'm covered for ?

back in 1984 my husband , thanks to an incredible offer at that time, got lifetime membership - my card says Personal Roadside.

I've never needed to use it - the Freelander dealer told me just to ring them if I'd a problem and that only happened once.

Now I've the C-Max and a dealer from whom I would not expect any assistance I need to have some idea as to what I'll get from the RAC - I can't find any paperwork in the house relating to it

Their definition of "road side" cover
Roadside cover
We'll fix your vehicle wherever you break down in the UK as long as you're more than ¼ mile from your home.
If we can't fix your vehicle at the roadside, we'll take you and your vehicle to a garage or any other destination within 10 miles.

The personal bit is, you are covered not the vehicle, so if you are in a friends car that breaks down, you can call for assistance and get the same level of cover.

You can always give them a ring to confirm

Absolutely none at all :(
At least its easy to switch ( suppliers of what ever) these days.
I remember when this auto renew started to appear, many moons ago, and I thought, what a great idea, that's very kind of them.
And then of course it dawned on me, especially with the appearance of the go--switch-a meerkat-type sites.

The approach companies adopt offering cheaper introductory offers and then raising prices seems very much the business 'model' with all of them. Unfortunately, the less 'savvy' in society, (often the older generation) and the unwary get penalised.

I would have thought that all this would be illegal, ( but unfortunately no) but its "Sharp practice" at best.

Thanks for that - that's what I hoped :) I'm trying to remember whenI had to call them our before - it was a nearside front wheel flat on a LandRover 2A . I had spare and a decent trolley jack but couldn't undo the wheel nuts because of hand problems , I was barely 1/4 mile from home but as a woman on my own they came

Are loan women cheaper than rentals?

Stay away from loan women, its still finance no matter what they look like, go to a bank if you need to borrow money

Wasn't it Garbo who said "I want to be a loan."?

Here is the answer and has been for quite a few years now. £45 a year and you don't get the con every year.

Word of warning, the freebie covers offered by banks and insurance are often littered with hidden limitations.

As a bit of balance.....the freebie cover sometimes far exceeds the regular cover :)

For example, regular AA membership excludes what they calls "SIFs" - that's a self induced fault such as locking the keys in your car. They will have a go but when it gets hard they will explain that you aren't covered (in fact they told me I needed to pay an unspecified amount for a specialist lift of my vehicle.) The affinity cover provided with some manufacturer's policies does cover SIFs - or rather doesn't always exclude them.

And yes, I found out the hard way. Affinity cover (instead of "proper" AA cover) actually saved me a lot of money one dark and stormy night.

It gets you home the same as RACAA!
That's not how it reads to me at least ...
If your breakdown occurs at your home, and if the car can’t be repaired quickly at the scene of the breakdown,
we will recover the car to the nearest available garage to help get you back on the road again.

Proving you should always read the small print
( who ever / what ever it is)

I suggest you read the whole page and not just the bit's you want.
I only read the first few lines of the front page that you linked, as I wasn't really interested!
As I already said, I'd renewed with a well known recovery company, plus I'd already said, fairy nuff.
So there is no point in you going into attack mode.
