I've searched, and found very little, and I know from previous conversations that 10 stop Neutral Density filters are ever so slightly hard to come by (2 month waiting lists, out of stock, blah blah blah).

I'm going to the Lake District July 19th, and want a 10 stop nd for the trip. I just recently sold all my kit and bought a 5D and a 17-40, so I need a 77mm ND filter.

so basically, I want to know the answers to these:

1. Is B+W the be-all and end-all of 10 stop ND filters?
2. If yes, where is the best place to get them? (bearing in mind I'm going in just over a month)
3. If no, what other brands are just as good (I understand that if I pay less, I get less quality) - I've heard heliopan are decent?

Thanks

The new hitech filter seems to be popular, however it isn't a screw in filter so you'll need a holder etc. It's what I'll probably be getting when my Lee filter kit arrives.

What's the price of that? And where can I get me one?

Also, won't there be issues with long exposures of light creeping in through the cracks between the filter and the lens front? I thought that having it screw-in was quite important... anyone care to clarify?

Also, the filter holder is visible at 17mm on my 17-40 which is a royal pain in the ane, so if possible I'd prefer to not have that...

There's a thread near the top of the review section, on my phone so can't post the link.

You would need a holder, and light leak is taken care of by the filter having a gasket around it.

I got a 67mm B+W 10 stop from fotosence , arrived in 3 days , more than happy with there service  , and im seriously happy with my 10 stop !!
Obviously the 77mm is more popular , i would contact them and see how long the wait would be.

I just got one of these, but have not yet had chance to try it out properly. Camera manages to meter with the filter on sometimes as well.

Thats only 9 stops though. I have one and its a good filter, just not 10 stops!

That's the one - LCW 500D. Cheapest too - from Premier-Ink. Mine's nearer eight stops, but that's still plenty dark enough for me.

New B+W multi-coated ten stopper looks very nice (regular version is uncoated, as well as rather warm) but quite expensive.

I've seen the lee big stopper, but that's a little out of my price range. Most people seem to rate the B+W, so I didn't even think about taking into account the Lee. I'm not a pro, I don't worry too much about the best image quality ever :p

 I always see things cheaper after buying, although the flea bay one is coming from abroad where as mine was in the UK, so delivery was really quick.

Just called Robert White, and a very pleasant south african man answered the phone and told me they had those filters in stock!

Can't believe I've just spent nearly £100 on a piece of glass though... Dear oh dear.
