Yes Dear

The trick I used to get my fifty worked well.

My W2b did an A level in photography, used to develop her own again but hasn't used an SLR for years.

It just so happened that I found the lens I wanted (pentax SMC-A 50mm f1.7) attached to a Pentax ME Super:)

She has often said she'd like to get a film camera again.... so bingo, i bought the camera,I got the lens, she got the camera, all are happy!

Mind you that was the one time I didn't need an excuse to justify the cost, I got a steal at £26.

Whilst on holiday in Crete last month, Sam saw a really nice ring in a jewellers. I told her that she could have it if she wanted it, she kept saying "no"...in that kinda way we men understand to mean "yes" so I eventually talked her into going in and trying it on. It fitted her perfectly, so of course she had to have it.
I noticed at the time they had a matching bracelet and earrings for it but didn't say anything.....:naughty::naughty::naughty:

Two days later I went for a stroll down to the bar for a pint or three of Mythos (as you do) and returned six hours later (half bladdered) with the earrings....mucho brownie points.

Two days after that the bracelet suddenly appeared (after another session of falling down water)....

I think I'm safe for another couple of lenses if I just happen to mention how lovely I am to her
;)

saving for the wedding and honeymoon.......

Thats where i am at the moment at it sucks!
I mean i love the future Mrs. Me and cant wait to get married. But its a case of when we are talking about how much things cost for the wedding, and the wedding ring she wants is £500 (The same price as a Siggy 70-200 F2.8). I bet if i went in and see the same ring without the word wedding in the title "wedding ring" it would only be like £250. Thieving *******s!

Then there is the honeymoon, a "once in a life time" holiday. So we are having to raise £4k to go to Hawaii via Las Vegas and somewhere else on the way back. I cant wait, but i really need decent lenses for that holiday else to me its not worth it

I am quite lucky as the wife-to-be loves togging too, so there is always the fact that she can use any of my kit if she wants. How else was i meant to get a 30d back-up camera? Just call it hers.....

Fantastic thread

For the wives who don't check the bank accounts, how about just printing off some Opteka labels and sticking them over the Canon or Nikon words. Sorted! :naughty::lol::thumbs:

Smiffy, I wouldn't bet on that :D doesn't work here. I've been trying to convince her I need a lens that overlaps/replaces the kit lens and overlaps the 55-250 to minimise changes and reduce the risk of dust... She nearly threw a fit and demanded the 450d get sent back when I had some dust spots as it was obviously faulty. Hasn't worked though. It doesn't help I'm also trying to convince her I need a new telescope either.

I'm always open about what I spend although occasionally she'll roll her eyes. She appreciates how much enjoyment I get from photography and is quite happy with it, sometimes encouraging me to buy some kit. It keeps me from getting under her feet too.

I have to agree - my wife has been known of late to sit by the french doors, long lens in hand, sneaking photos of the back garden birds..... hopefully it's the beginning of Gear Acquisition syndrome.... as long as it's Nikon, I won't mind....

Oh, and with a new baby on the way, I managed to convince her a Nikkor 85mm f/1.4 was essential for our newborn's portraits... actually, really looking forward to seeing the results there..

I bet the future Mrs S would be well chuffed to hear that you are going to be bored after one night going at it like ferrets

"Love, not now, the sunset is lovely, i must go photograph it with the new siggy 10-20 i bought espcially for the holiday"
chances are, that will be her saying that! Although it will be the new siggy i bought HER especially for the holiday! haha!

Nah, seriously though, whats the point in going to these gorgeous countries if i can capture them to remember forever? ;)

on holiday in the Peak District in summer and I spotted an eagle ;) high in the sky.
Her indoors insisted we nip into Stockport for a 100-400L

Mine would have suggested a bargain bucket
:(

never saw it again, but its not going back :nono:

Does she have a sister? ;)

Smiffy, I remember you post about going into Tescos for a dinner service set. Was drinking my coffee at the time..I'm sure you can guess the rest

The dinner service is doing fine although the "brats" have broken one of the plates already....:nono::nono::nono:

My copy of Photoshop Elements 7 arrived today (I have everything from Amazon delivered to work..me no silly) so I've quickly loaded it up and hidden the box.
Wonder if she'll notice the shortcut on the desktop...she spotted the one to "You Porn" within 2 bloody minutes. :'(:'(:'(:'(:'(

I just show my wife some pics from the flickr groups on what lens im after, and her usual response is "Oh you`ve got to get one of those, they`re really cool pictures" :D

Just lucky i guess.

I was collared in the street by Channel 5 news on Tuesday, asking for my view on the credit crunch....

couldn't stand there and tell the world I'd just bought a £750 camera lens, so I lied like a cheap watch.... just out of shot you could hear my wife laughing....

We have no problems with things like this

I don't ask how much she spends in Harvey Nichols, she doesn't ask how much I spend on camera stuff

(though it isn't much really and we have talked about the 5D MkII and she is fine with it, especially when I showed her those wildlife films)

I don't have to since its my money

I don't say anything when she buys stuff. if the woman moans or you have to hide things or lie then you can't have a good relationship

Having read this:

What have your techniques been from getting kit past the other half, whilst keeping your body parts intact? (or your wallet)

The sex is great, so I stay
:lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:

Just going off tangent for a minute.....

I played golf this morning at our local club, really nice course and a lovely day. Played with a very friendly guy and had a spot of lunch afterwards.
Sitting down having a beer and he said to me "did you find the greens a tad hard today?"
"Yes" I replied, "but the roast potatoes were perfect"....

I don't think he understood my humour
:(:(:(:(:(

Ive never quite understood how this works for other people, but ive never had to hide anything.

You go to work, earn the money, pay the bills, and then buy the toys.

I think as far as my wife is concerned as long as the bills etc are paid there is no problem.

I couldn't live in a relationship where i couldn't enjoy my hobby for fear of a rollocking.

Maybe im just exceptionally lucky, some guys i work with need to ask their wifes for their cashcard so they can go get some of their wage out..... WTF is that about....

I'd like to post something in this thread - but my wife says I'm not allowed to!!!

Hmmmmmm ... I have to ask ..... is Little Man your name or the reason you never got married???

(only joking ;) )

Anth

PMSL.

I'm 19 mate, I ain't getting married for a loooooooooong time.

I'm divorced. I can spend my money on whatever I bloody well like...now! I suppose I'm lucky I never took up serious photography until afterwards!

If my wife asks why I need yet another bit of camera equipment I just walk to her wardrobe, open the door, survey the 50+ pairs of shoes, raise one eyebrow and carry on about my business without another word being spoken:thumbs:

Right, just found the next way of getting my new lens past her :D

Although the easiest way i found out tonight is tell her that im buying her a cheap 70-300 and that i need a 70-200 f2.8 and a lens that at least goes up to 400mm. She didnt argue, but then i wasnt stupid and tell her the price! Haha!

Try "and how many pairs of shoes can you wear at once.........???"

Always works.

I got my last camera bag past her by telling her she was right about me needing a manbag, I get the bag and she gets to think she's right! Result allround!

Haha, thats pure awesome mate :)

For the big purchases I just tell her well in advance, then when it comes time to get it, it's no big shock. Worked ok for my upgrade from 300D to 40D as that took 6 months longer than I thought. The snap decision to buy the 100-400 second hand from someone on here though came as a shock...

I only occaisionally make a single big purchase, perhaps once a year. She probably spends as much on lots of individual purchases every couple of months, but neveer quite seemsto see my side of that argument.

I have everything delivered to work...

In the spirit of openness and to more or less guarantee delivery I have started having the parcels delivered to her work as often as not I am out when they arrive .
I just say I have arranged for a del at your work ok ?
As they get older ( mines 57 next month ) they are more relaxed about these things , spec when the house is paid for :)
Funnily enough she was more of a nagger when we were courting , but not since then.

It's amazing what you can win in competions nowadays!!!! ;):D

I dont have to worry about what the missus says! I do overtime quite a lot and i make sur that the overtime i do pays for the lens or whatever.
Such as now at end of Nov i should have a 50D and end of december should have 10-300mm f/4 and a 1.4 TC to go with it.

she doesnt mind its my money - i have worked hard for it. the only thing is that she says we dont spend enough time together! - CANT WIN!!!!!

The lady I'm dating (very early days though) has a daughter who's studying A-Level photography, so if things do end up happily, I guess she'd be a little more flexible.

She has taken a sudden interest in 'tography largely because of what her daughter is doing..

I don't stop Sam buying food and wasting her money on Council tax...
Why should she tell me what to do?
:suspect::suspect:
