Afternoon folks,

I know there are plenty of other threads running on here, and that they are all asking the same, so I'm sure you'll be pleased to hear that this one is no different :D

So, here it is...

Be good to hear your thoughts/comments/crit/suggestions etc etc. Only had friends/families look and of course they all thinks its great, so it would be nice to get some honest feedback :thumbs:

One thing would be your pricing for postage....
Free for under £20 going up in scale, would this stop people buying ???

Normally you would see free postage if you spend over £100 or £200, maybe this would encourage people to buy more ???

Just a few questions to think about ????

Looks good Darren. Not sure about the logo, its a tad fussy for my liking and not sure if the gritty style fits with the site & purpose.

Also, the stark black and white doesn't quite work for me. I know a lot of people use this for sites of this nature but I think it can be softened a little, maybe using a not quite so 'black' or introduce another colour.. I think the black works well when you are displaying full screen images (like here) but is a little hard on the eyes when there is so much of it. Its also the harshness of the white text, logo and lines around images. Maybe you could reduce the thickness of the white keyline around the images - this could help add some subtlety.

Obviously these are personal thoughts so take with a pinch of salt!
 
Also there is a gap between the top of the browser and your logo image, would look much better if you got rid og this. This would do it in your CSS stylesheet:

Thanks for your comments. With regards to the logo/banner its not my design...I asked a graphic designer 'friend' to come up with something as a favour and as such I didn't want to pester him too much. As it turns out, I did pester him a fair bit and he put up with me. I'd be reluctant to go back and ask him to change it, especially as he now knows my website!

I can easily tone down the thickness of keyline around the images, and possibly adjust the colour of the text and the background, but then that would look out of place with the banner/logo wouldn't it?

I'm not sure there is much I can do about that gap...the site is run using Photium so I don't know whether this is easily adjustable?

Hmmm, interesting....Photium resizes images so they are 960pixels wide max. I'm viewing the site on my work PC which has a 17" screen and I don't have to scroll at all, and my home PC has a wide screen monitor (can't recall waht size) and I have no need to scroll on that either :thinking:

Yeah, I have to scroll as well. I could experiment with reducing the image size and see how Photium likes that :)
 
Hi Darren,

Just some of my views, feel free to ignore!
- In the gallery's all pictures have titles, many of which are a bit lame to be honest and only serve to describe what the eye is already seeing... I don't see the point... especially in the "Abstract" gallery as half the fun is trying to figure out what things are!
- In the pricing you list sizes but not what the product is (I assume photo quality print?) until you move onto canvases.
- Personally I wouldn't bother with a guestbook, they are rarely used and a bit "amateur" but as and when you get specific feedback on your photography you could list this on a page called "testimonials" or something?

Hi Annie, thanks for your comments :)

Titles - I ALWAYS struggle with what to call my pictures! I'm constantly torn between naming them or not because I can never come up with anything imaginative enough. Good point though, and maybe I'll try and get creative over the weekend.

Product - I wrongly assumed that if I wasn't offering canvas then the 'default' product is a standard photo quality print. I'll go and add some more detail so its more obvious what it is people are getting.

Guestbook - I've had a couple of comments in there already :) I could perhaps change the tab so that is reas "Testimonials" as I guess that sounds a bit more professional!
 
is photium a content management system?

if it is possible try to get your images a max of 600 x 400 ( or smaller on a home page)

i aim to fit my sites to a max 1024 x 768 , this covers 90% of all screen

the 768 is the max page height

Thanks for that Steve, I'll have a go at resizing the photos this evening and see how that effects the layout of the slideshow on the homepage :)
