Yes
9 days of extremely hard work, 6 books and 3 exams later and I am now an MCSA for SQL 2012.

If you want IT training, I can only recommend Firebrand.

Sadly it is Sunday and I've only just got back home and due in work as usual 9am tomorrow morning.

Congrats :)

Finally got round to getting my Oracle certs. Got the PLSQL dev OCA last week, need the advanced PLSQL OCP soon...and have the 11g admin OCA booked for September. Sadly all paid for by moi as I'm contracting atm!

Well done!!

Congrats! I have no idea what any of the acronyms in this topic mean though, apart from SQL . Only qualification I have is a BEng.

Personally I wouldn't say it was easy and watching the full time DB Admins squirm, they didn't find it easy either.

MC-TS is an easier option, but doesn't have the same scope.

That and new ones are only valid for 3 years, but all qualifications seemed to be going that way.

Plan to do Security+ and CASP by the end of the year.

MCSE in what area?

Server infrastructure probably. Trouble is unless I download and faff about myself with 2012 (or whatever the current is when i get around to it) ill have no experience with the up to date MS qualification version. We've only just rolled servers to 2008 and even then the migration isn't complete.

:-/

Congrats Dale.

My thoughts are the same a Neil the constant changes they keep comming up with and the time of validity on the qualifications I stopped bothering when they went to server 2003 allowed my server 2000's to expire and stopped "paying my subs".

Having the MCSE never got me a job or a new contract, most people didn't and still don't have a clue what they are just knew they were a microsoft qualification was enough I found. Only people in IT would know the amount of work that has gone in to gaining the qualification.
Infact I would now go to say as far as being in the microsoft partner network (so you can but the microsoft badge on stationary) is just as valuable again no one really knows what it is but its microsoft so they must know what they are doing right will get you just as far. and you at a load of licences :)

Your 2000 qualifications didn't expire, my 2002 MCSE is still valid :)

Congrats :-)

I know exactly how you feel (walking on air), after passing the first of many MS exams on route to my MCSE back in 1998!

Back then when I first passed my MCSE, it certainly brought me a fair bit of work. Whilst MS exams aren't as valuable as what they once were, they are still VERY helpful in demonstrating skills. Just make sure you back it up with good and relevant experience and you'll be fine.

I have used the qualifications to learn and will put to experience over the next few months. I am hoping to never need the qualifications as part of a CV.

Completely

But the way people do things isn't always the best. Products improve, things change etc.

Finding the middle ground is what its about.

If you can get your work to fund it, do your MCSE with Firebrand, 14 days to get the cert and you will play with all the new bits while you are there
