Yashica teasing a new (film) camera?

Probably will cost as much as a small car.......

As much as I'd love this to be a new film camera (which would be a huge vote of confidence for film photographers), I suspect it's more likely to be a digital camera.
Did show the girl winding on though?
Maybe its a history thing showing how we used to take photos but now you can have a "replacement" lens on a phone?

I didn't spot the film advance actionon first viewing. Hmmm, interesting (although it might end up being some sort of strange retro-styling to make digital feel like film or something. :) ).

Granddaughter has just borrowed my FR1 for college photography course.

Or a composite/hybrid. Film as teh medium, rear screen for viewing result(s), now wouldnt that be interesting?

or some sort of uber energy efficient sensor + (multistroke) wind up capacitive power supply :exit:

That looks a lot like a Yashica GSN rangefinder, down to the over/under lights on the top plate. The girl lines up a selfie at 0:12 that shows the rear of the camera and it looks like a standard film back to me.

This is why I hate teaser trailers - it could be an old film camera to "remind viewers of our heritage" as much as a new product. Or it might be that Yashica are to produce their own ranges of rolling tobacco and IPA, given that they have as much coverage in the trailer as the camera. :cautious:

Well you never know, Kodak and other companies are bringing back more varieties of film, more people are starting to use film and there is a market for film cameras, prices for 2nd hand film cameras are going up rapidly! (Depending on model etc). If it's well made like with metal it could be done but for a hefty price.

Or perhaps they're just supplying some vintage props for a new series of Upstairs - Downstairs? ;)

Hate to pee on the parade but I've been told it's a set of lenses to fit to mobile phones (they're on the Yashica site already). I guess they're cashing in on the analogue revival with their advertising.

What Steve said. You actually get a glimpse of one of them in the video.

How times have changed, both in terms of advertising and buying photography equipment.

Those mobile lenses were from a few years ago, weren't they? Bit of a letdown if that's all it is! :D

If it's a new camera then I'm going to be all over it like a fat kid on cake!
With respect... why?

All Yashica is now is a name. Anything released now has nothing to do with Yashica cameras of the past. There is no old technology to build on.

Huh! Why do you need three o_O yeah alright cos I can :D
I bought the Yashikor lensed one first and liked using it, then I spotted one of the 'rare' Yashinon lensed ones (the same lens used on the Yashicamat and only fitted to the 635 during the last year or so of production) in very nice condition, so I bought it. A year or so later I saw another Yashinon lensed one in virtually 'as new' condition for sale at 'ordinary' 635 money, so snapped that one up as well. How these things can snowball.

If it is a new camera I wouldn't be surprised if it was digital with a retro design like an X100. Looking at the video, there's a rectangular hump above where the viewfinder would but, possibly suggesting an EVF? Could be wrong but so far it looks like nobody outside of Yashica knows any facts about it so we'll have to wait and see.

I might be barking in the wrong forest here, let alone up the wrong tree, but do you think it could be a camera that could take 35mm film as well as shooting digital, like a modern take on the duel format 635 concept? However, I can't see a screen on the back of it. There are some glimpses of it here on the longer version of the first video linked on this thread:

This was exactly what I was just thinking, maybe like an electronic viewfinder from a small sensor in the top part (which could freeze the image when you take it so you get a little preview and optional saving), then the normal film compartment in the main body. I'm sure this could be done and will be done at some point with today's technology, if film continues its resurgence.

However, I'd be happy with just a new proper film camera with excellent IQ, if it's a success it would make quite the statement to the market.

The writing to the right of the lens (looking from the front) doesn't look like a GSN as there is more text, although it could just have a different badge on it.

That is definitely a GSN in the first video but the top plate is different to the camera in the newer video as the GSN doesn't have the raised rectangular block above the viewfinder and is a bigger camera than this one.

The camera in the last video does looks different to Electro 35 GSN.

Rectangular thing where the hotshoe is supposed to be. Also print on the lens is on the inside ring rather than outside

It looks like Yashica on the shutter button side and at first glance Electro 35 at the bottom right..... Its not going to be a full frame rangefinder is it? Digital? Film? Very difficult to see clearly but it's definitely interesting.

I have a horrible suspicion.

Yashica Electro 35 -> snap on smartphone lens -> rigid smartphone case (that looks like Electro 35) with lens, shutter button and dummy 'vintage' controls?

Oh good grief, you might be correct. What a terrible waste of everyone's time that would be. :(

I've got it ... KONOST that other unicorn has been bought by (the brand that owns the trademark) Yashica!

Perhaps it's a genuinely retro design and will squirt a jet of water out of the lens when the shutter button is pressed, like the trick toy camera my mate had when we were about 7?! That would wipe the 'real coffee' stains off the beards of a few hipsters! Watch the birdie! :D

Edit: One like this: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Vintage-T...657380?hash=item3f85daeee4:g:l3wAAOSwnHZYQMQH

Andy... move away from the 'buy in now' button!
