Is it just me or has the junk mail on Yahoo mail gone skyhigh? I used to get about 4 - 8 ish a day, now all of a sudden I'm getting closer to 40 a day, fair do to the spam filter, it's getting most of them but why the sudden increase?

it could be several reasons, including that you've signed up for something that has pimped your email out or that you've posted it online somewhere and its been picked up and used for spam.

im the same today, normally five or six junk ones, the last 2 days about 100 each day

Yeah it's gone mad.
Thanks for the replies guys, can't think of anything I just signed up for, guess it's just been picked up someplace.

Try using this to sign up to stuff you know is going to sent you loads of crap.

Its called 10 minute email. It basically gives you a random email address to put in for 10 mins, you refresh the page to recieve your email to activate your account or whatever then your in.

Here.. Its the best thing on the net for sure lol

If your signing up to a site you go to 10 minute email. It provides you with an email address to use. You sign up to whatever your signing up to with that email. Then you go to the 10 minute email page, keep refreshing it until you recieve your conformation email from the site you signed up to. Then you click the activation link they sent to activate the site you signed up to. Thats it really. It just means that all the crap emails they send you, you will never get because the email you used expires in 10 minutes.

I use it when looking for insurance quotes online so i dont get loads of emails off all the companys

bit of a pain though if the email doesnt come through in 10 mins.. ;)

i think spam in general is on the increase, it always is.. for example it was not so long ago that MS hotmail and a few other mainstream ISPs blocked all incoming mailservers that were not registered with them. it cause chaos for us personally as it took 48 hours to update the whitelist.

our inbound mail server at work processes an average of approx 25,000 emails a day. 5,000 of those are instantly marked as SPAM and are deleted, about another 5,000 of those are marked as suspicious and are quarantined, the majority of the remainder are instantly deleted for having an invalid recipient, the minority are legitimate emails with a couple of junk items that have slipped through the net.

personally i have a proper hate campaign with people that forward on those emails warning of scams that are actually common hoaxes that a quick google will provide info on and people that foward on crappy chain emails "forward this to all your friends, if 1 replies your willy will fall off, if 2-8 people reply your willy will turn blue...." etc.

There is a link to click that says "i need 10 more mintues" So you can keep giving yourself time ;)

Generally you get an email straight away anyway :)

The spam problem on yahoo is why I gave up with them, yahoo spam filters caught very little of it. Of the free e-mail hosting service gmail has the best spam filters.

If you are looking for another free e-mail service, avoid inbox.com as all I seem to get through their service is spam dispite the fact that they filter the mail for spam, I also use gmx.com, their service seem to be ok at the moment.

I like the idea of the 10 minute mail, might be useful.
