Edit My Images
No
It may be small but one of my pictures was in the Wirral Globe this week :) I submitted it online just for their website gallery, I didnt know then then chose a few to go into the newspaper itself!
Also 2 of my shots from a belly dancing night are being bought, this is my first time getting paid for my work!

Wooo!

Nice one

A friend of mine was always trying to get me to go belly dancing ... apparently I have the right look for it

Id much rather take pics of other peeps bellydancing though, Id love to hear about your night & see the pics!

You should give it a try, I do both now because my teacher likes the photos i take (and the "arty" after-faff (or aftermath )
it's great fun and good exercise too!

OOh nice!

I wouldnt mind a bash actually, Ive always been a bit of a Shakira on the dancefloor ;)

Id love to get some nice mysterious looking close-ups of someone wearing veils with zils.

Give it a try :D
At the event there was a professional photographer getting close ups but i didnt want to get in his way...maybe when I'm hired next time ;)

Hot damn nice work :) Getting paid for it or just the smile from telling people? :)

Getting paid is a bonus (you know with being the poor recently graduated student ) but its also the sense of achievement :) and that other people can appreciate my work

Well done getting work paid for.

But regarding submitting images to the paper....

This would be a good thread to post a warning to always check the terms and conditions when submitting any material to local rags. Especially if the work is important to you!

Here for instance are the T&Cs for the Wirral Globe. Read carefully for they are quite frightening if you value your work....

11. Your responsibilities
You are legally responsible for material you post or submit and you understand that by doing so you intend it to be published on the website. Such material may include without limitation words, artwork, pictures (still or moving) and sound. You give us free of charge the non-exclusive, sub-licensable right to edit, delete, copy, translate, create derivative works from, publish, broadcast, transmit, distribute, perform, make available to the public or otherwise use and re-use material contributed by you (or not use it) on the website and its community forums, reader comments and blogs and associated publications, and in any other media (now known or later developed) worldwide for the full term of any rights that may exist in your contribution (including any renewals or extensions) and you waive any moral rights in your contribution for these purposes.

13. You acknowledge that all rights, including copyright and database rights, for any content on the website (including Newsquest trade names and logos) or which is submitted by you belong to us or are licensed by you to us for the purposes in 11 above. You may read and contribute to the website and its communities, comments and blogs for your own private purposes but not for any advertising or other commercial purpose (which includes junk mail, spam, chain letters, pyramid schemes or any other form of solicitation or commercial exploitation). For private purposes, you may download and use reader-generated content on a single PC and you may print out (but not photocopy) one hard screen copy of contributions to the website and its communities, comments or blogs for your personal use only. But you will not otherwise copy, store, distribute, publish, broadcast, transmit, show in public, create a database (in electronic or any other medium) from downloaded materials or otherwise use any part of this website without our written permission, except that you may reproduce reasonable extracts of any contribution to the website and its community, comments and blogs without our prior permission for non-commercial purposes provided that you deal fairly with the material and you properly accredit any original work to its author and the name of this site.

So there you go. I have highlighted a couple of the naughty bits.

This is very common and will catch the uninformed photographer quite easily.

So if someone unwittingly submits a rather fantastic image, then this lot (and many other papers) can use your image, change it, sell it etc and without your permission and without you getting a penny.

Be careful out there folks! :)

I used to do work for Newsquest on their range of "thisis..." websites and they're a huge group. Post your pic on the Wirral Globe website, it'll be in 300 different papers, websites and magazines before you could whistle dixie and not get paid for it ! :(

But besides that congrats for getting published.. It's a good feeling and gets better if someone crosses your palm with silver ! :)
