Does anyone here know if it's possible to change the default display language on XP Home? My mum's edition is in German, but she wants it to display English instead...

Start > Control Panel > Regional and Language options, change the language in there.

I'm just trying to find an easier way (considering she may not find those options with it being in German)

That doesn't work, Marcel. At least, it doesn't work on my version of XP Pro when trying to get it to display in German from English...

I installed a customised (Lite) version of windows, so I didnt install any other languages, so I caxn't test this, but this is the only other option I can't try, so give it a whirl, see if it works on yours.

Found on the XP knowledgebase site
============
Change the locale that is used to specify the language that is used for non-Unicode programs
To change the locale in the Regional and Language Options tool in Control Panel that specifies the language that is used by programs that do not use Unicode encoding, follow these steps:

Note Perform this procedure for every user profile on the computer that is using one of the new locales that is included in Windows XP SP2 before you remove Windows XP SP2 from the computer.
1. Log on to the computer as a user with administrator credentials.
2. Click Start, click Run, type intl.cpl in the Open box, and then click OK.
3. Click the Advanced tab.
4. In the Select a language to match the language version of the non-Unicode programs you want to use box, click a locale that is not listed in the "New locales that Windows XP SP2 supports" section, and then click OK.

Should look like this in XP Pro, there is more than one setting to change !

Yup, and not one of them affect the overall system language display.
Mine all look like that, but if you look at this one Ian

Then it suggests that I have something missing on my install (as do you) to enable that option. I personally trim down windows when I install it.

Thanks for the help, guys. None of thoseparticular options have worked... But from what I can gather, there is a multilingual pack you can get from MS for various packages. The only other option is to reinstall the OS, which I don't really want to have to do if I can help it...

Yeah, it's a German edition, and yes all the relevant options are set to English, other than the input locale, which is German because of the keyboard...

I think the MUI (Multiligual User Interface) is only installed if you install more than the standard default language at Windows Install time....None of us ever do that, hence why none of us have that extra drop down menu box.

Not sure if you can install it *post* XP install (if that makes sense)...I shall do more digging for you :)

Thanks Marcel

That's the puppy.

Because mine is a slipstreamed install. I can run the setup but only choose english. I'm sure your mums PC will have English selectable too :)

Thanks - that's great. I'll try it later...

(Just looked it this on my own install of XP Pro, though - no MUISetup.exe!)

Hmm strange

I'm running XP Pro, and the file C:\Windows\MUI\MuiSetup.exe is there (the only file in that directory), and it does run, it just only lets me install one language...English :D

Yeah, it's the same on my mum's pc. Gonna have to reinstall, I reckon :(
