I have just driven through Birkenhead North End on my way to work, when low and behold whilst stopped at the lights i saw my first fully lit up house.Xmas lights all over it but it looks a right mess im sorry to say. Has any one else seen any yet and what do you think of these houses in general for or against and when is an acceptable time prior to xmas to put them up and on.Does any one fancy starting a thread where we post pics of them between now and say week 2 of Dec to see the best and worst. Hold a poll for them on the last day and send them both a photograph p shopped no pun or insult intended.

they are starting to appear everywhere. I saw my first one 2 weeks ago in wycombe.

Seems to happen every year now. Xmas lights went up around town a week ago so is it really the fault of those people or the council for encouraging them? Xmas adverts on tv start late Oct and have done for a few years now. Same old same old. People will be shocked year after year. "OMG its Novemember, Xmas decorations already?" How long until the first easter egg thread? :) Build up to Easter is worse. Starts on Boxing Day with Cream Eggs.

Although I hate Christmas in general due to all this present buying (I always say if I don't get anyone anything then they won't have to worry about getting me anything) due to my very limited financies, I actually don't mind people lighting up houses in that way. It certainly does help to brighten up these cold dark miserable winter evenings.
Actually, I'll be surprised if that many people will be going overboard with outdoors Christmas lighting this year due to the increased cost of electricity. I know that would be on my mind before thinking about making my house look like Blackpool Illuminations.

Christmas lights have gone up in bromley.
Not seen any in houses yet though!! (not that i peer into peoples houses!!!)

October the 25th for that shot, earliest I have seen them. Granted that was for filming of ASDAs Chrimbo advert (which I don't think is on TV yet). I do quite like the subtle ones they have in some towns/cities, helps make the dark nights a bit more pleasant...early yeah, but meh sod it! its only some lights :p

Well we used to put our up the weekend after bonfire night every year. Then we lost our Honey (GSD) just after putting them up a couple of years ago. We turned them off then and ever since have waited till a week before Christmas.

The reason we always used to put them up so early is because I got a kick out of thinking of all the people who would drive past, and have their kids in the car screeching at their parents to put theirs up, cause we had ours up. Well actually that's only part of the reason. The biggest reason is simply because we loved Christmas and couldn't wait to get started. Things change though I guess ... though I would like to think at some point we will find it just as exciting again. You can bet if that happens we will have them up no more than 7 days from November the 5th :D

im supposed to be off this xmas for the first time in four years but im looking to work it. its not that im a miserable sod its i just dont feel xmas is xmas anymore, theres none of the spirit about it i remember when my kids were growing up.its probably because as mentioned in the threads with out directly saying it, we now have the twelve weeks of xmas not days and im afraid some of these houses put the top hat on it. Tastefull or for charity yes the rest lets get it over. I now leave xmas to the wife even though grandchild no10 has just arrived and i should spend the holiday seeing all of them , all i want for xmas is selective power cuts. God rest ye merry people

I spent all last week putting up Christmas lights in Norwich city centre (working nights  ).They don't get officially switched on for a week or so, but I have been known to turn them on just for a few seconds as my daughter is walking past with her mates - they think it is great. :woot: (My excuse is that they have to be tested prior to the official switch-on.) :D
