Gutted :(

My xbox has stopped working, anyone know if its repairable.

Last night switched it on to play COD4 MW2 and it said that there was a game update available so I installed the update – all fine.

Playing my first xbox live game (damn doing well too) and up came an error saying disk unreadable. I pulled out the disk can gave it a clean but I then noticed that the xbox had frozen.

Switched it off / on but up came the error message E79 with 1 red light.

Had a quick Google of E79 error and found a few occurrences of the fix below but the problem is I don’t get as far as step1 the blade menus don’t come up.:bang:

Any ideas

Clear All Installed Game Updates and Console Cache
1. Go to the "system" blade
2. Select "memory"
3. Press Y on the HD symbol
4. Press X,X, Left Bumper, Right Bumper, X,X
5. A message will appear saying: "Do you want to perform maintenance on your Xbox 360 storage devices?"
6. Select Yes

Clear Any Failed system updates that cause the console to error.

1. With the console off, press and hold the sync up button (the small white one)
2. While holding the sync button press the power button to turn on the console
3. Continue to hold the sync button until the Console has booted up completely.
4. During the boot process the console should clear any failed updates, allowing you to use it normally.
 
If it works a Pint will be on its way :beer:

Still not working :( , i guess its off to get a new one. Can you get just the console with nothing else as i have all the other bits.

Been on the phone to Microsoft and its out of warranty, standard repair cost is £98. You can get a new arcade version for £99 from Argos so calling in to pick one up later.
 
Tell them its got the infamous Red Ring of Death and they will fix it for nothing.

They don't check it when it gets to Germany, you just get a new one sent back to you...

another sale for microsoft, making the system appear more popular, so more suckers consumers will buy it...

For the 'repair' you are just buying a new console from microsoft without any acessories.

I'm a sucker, I bought one.
Then again IMO I have already had my moneys worth out of it with just a couple of games so all good.
