Yup, turned on the 360 last night and got the good old 3 red rings :(

I wouldn't mind but it's only just under a year since I got it back from when it did this last time :annoyed:

To be fair to Microsoft though, their tech support couldn't have been better :) Helpful and polite, appologetic that it had happened, not even a suggestion of charging me for the repair. A UPS label is being emailed, they will collect it on Monday and return it withing 2 weeks. Also extended my gold subscription by 30 days to say sorry.

So  for the build quality of the 360 console but a big  to Microsoft for their XBox customer support :)

Not good but with the RRod you wouldn't get charged for repair anyway. Maybe you'll get a replacement console. :)

That'd be nice :)

They'll probably replace some of the internals with the new hardware to try and fix the issue. Failing that they'll give you a new box because this is the second time I've read statistics showing a massive decrease in RRODs since they started shipping the new motherboards.

Unfortunately my experience with Microsoft AND Comets has been far less than helpful when a brand new XBox 360 I brought from Comets also showed the dreaded 3 red lights. It happened about a year ago and I only had the machine for a week.
I kept all receipts and packaging and took it back to Comets and in a calm manner I told them what had happened. They point blank refused to help me and said it's up to Microsoft to sort it out. I asked them if they have a number for them and I will try and sort it out anyway.
So I phoned Microsoft up . . . and, they, too, would not help me.

At this point my patience wore thin. I've had enough and stormed back into Comets and staged a mini-sit-in until someone could sort it out. I spent over 2 hours sat in a manager's office until someone will help me out. It's one thing for a machine to break down within a week of purchase but it was another thing having commited myself to a 12 months finance plan to pay for it and yet I couldn't use the machine.
In the end, the manager finally agreed to cancel the loan agreement and gave me back my £100 deposit and I walked out leaving that machine behind.

Even to this day, I can't understand why I felt "singled out" as I'm not some yobbish careless teenager. I'm a responsible 40 years old adult and I take good care of my things. I tried to deal with this complaint in a calm and composed manner but when no-one could help me at all, I just simply snapped.

To this day, unsurprisingly, my opinions of Comets AND Microsoft still isn't that high.

comet should have replaced it within a week.

MS have to look after their customers, the RRoD problem has cost them lots but makes them look like they have sold a fair few units when you look at sales numbers...how many users have just binned dead units and bought new ones?

i've had three instances of the rrod, the first machine was replaced with no problem, the second was repaired, the third time was two days after the repair ! i now have a playstation three

I'm surprised MS wernt interested in helping? They were more than helpfull when I got the dreaded RROD, and had the console back to me in under a week. All RROD repairs are done at Ms's expense and I cant see why they wouldnt help?

That said, very poor form by Comet for not replacing the console for you after only a week! Under the Sale of Goods Act you have certain statutory rights, and the goods must be of satisfactory quality, as described and fit for their purpose. If things go wrong when you purchase goods, you may be entitled to ask for a full refund, compensation, or a repair or replacement from the trader from which you purchased them from. Any guarantee or warranty is extra to this.
