X299 motherboard opinions and experiences

I'm looking to put together a new system and wondered how folk rate the various options for an X299 spec motherboard.....looking at Asus, Gigabyte, MSI, Asrock etc but open to look at others on recommendation.

I'm not remotely interested in the kind of bling (Leds) that Asus seem to put on their kit but I'm happy to ignore it if it's there. It won't be used for gaming and simply photo or video editing along with the usual home PC usage stuff..

why a X299 board, what chip are you throwing in, most of those type of boards are for gamers.

If your not gaming and or looking for the aesthetical pleasure through a side window on your case then I would ignore the X and Z boards altogether.
The X299 will be overkill for your needs with the money better spent on RAM and M.2 storage

Unless your planning on using an Intel i9 CPU of course.

The X299 motherbaords take the HEDT processors, which support quad channel memory, so are generally the top end processors.

I've got an older X99 motherboard and processor, but I'm waiting for the X299 replacement chips and motherboards which should be released in a month or two..

an i7 7800 or 7820 initially and see what appears in the future.

I plan to build it inside an old 50's radio chassis! I agree that an X299 is overkill today but this will likely be my last desktop so I'm just looking for something that will take a mid-life update in a few years if needed. I see a move towards more AI based software packages and predicting performance needs can be challenging in a fast paced environment.
