Yes
A for fun post as its unlikely to happen.

I have an itch to spend but am resisting. So far.

I'd prefer an m9 but since the pricing it somewhat high, perhaps the alternatives ;)

Anyway, Leica X1, Fuji x100 or just full frame on a d700 using most of the lenses I have...

I'm asking for those of you who own one of these camera, or have tried them all... And for other alternatives... (GX1?)

I believe the x1 and x100 are fixed lens? And focussing is a bit slow on some, but how does that compare to the picture quality?

What are you wanting to do differently? Without knowing your motivation its hard to answer as these are very different cameras with wildly different pros and cons.

Hi,

Well hmm dunno to be honest. The d300 does a great job, although its now 3 yrs old and I'm a gadget person, just my taste in gadgets seems to be getting mightily expensives :D

Was preferring to go full frame, but I liked the m9 for the size and the 'I'm not a pro dslr and huge look at me' type thing. More discreet. But both the x1 and x100 are fixed (Just looked at the x100 thread and it mentions a posible lens swapping camera fairly soon - lx summat?).

Prices are a problem, at 1800 for the d700, 1300 for the x1... although the x100 is coming in a vaguely affordable 800?.

Its really just a fun thread as I doubt I can scratch the itch unless lotto kicks in... :)

If anyone actually has these cameras and can take a pic with similar focal lengths as a comparison... :D

I did like tobers thread on the m9 and the pictures he produced looked wonderful!

A quick glance of your flickr suggests that you don't specialise in anything, so a D700 will not really gain you anything over the D300. I'd get an X100, and see how you get on with a smaller body and a fixed lens, and see if it changes your approach to photography.

I'd go for the GX1 if it had a VF but if you're happy using the back screen or an add on VF it'll probably be woth a look as will the X100 if you can live with the fixed lens. Another that'll be worth looking at is the Sony Nex 7.

As noted above, it's dependent on what you shoot, a D700 will give you substantially greater low light capability than a D300 (6400 producing images comparable to a D300 @ 1600), so if that's something that you find yourself needing then that's the one to go for.

I have no experience of the X1, however I had a shot of an X100 a few weeks back and was, really disappointed with the way it felt to hold. My expectation was that it would feel solid and have a bit of heft to it, but it just felt like a cheap compact, my GF-1 seems more solid.....

I'd take the D700 out of those listed. I'd look at the Leica M8 or even a NEX-5N or NEX-7 as mentioned before.

D700 any day. X100 sounds good in principle but there are too many things that would stop me buying it. The X1 is not really a "real" Leica, I'm pretty sure it's just "Leica badged" and I have not yet seen a good review of it.

Kai at Digitalrev on Youtube gives it a good review. It is a core product of Leica though along with the M and S systems.

I own a X1 and an m9-p and also dlux-5
I prefer dlux-5 to the X1, not that great camera for it's cost
I woul'd go for the x100, my next choice
If you are planning for higher jobs, must buy the d700 :)
