Wyoming, anyone been?

August 2017 sees a total solar eclipse and after having a look at a few places I like the sound of wyoming and the grand teton national park. It will be total in the south of the park. Never been before so just wondering of anyone else has visited the area. Just trying to fond out as much as possible to try and get some sort of itinery to try and price up.

Never been, but eclipse spotting you want somewhere thats renowned for lack of cloud at the time of year you are going. So worth researching that aspect.

I've been - Grand Teton is a rich place for photography. Remember that Yellowstone is just up the road.......

A few years ago I did this trip - flew into Denver, few nights in the Rockies, drove to Grand Teton for a few days there, then a few days in Yellowstone and finally drove back to Denver for a couple of days before flying home.

Good point, not sure if i have found the right sight, found a sight that shows between 9 and 10 mile visibility for the date the last few years good temps and no rain.

A few years ago I did this trip - flew into Denver, few nights in the Rockies, drove to Grand Teton for a few days there, then a few days in Yellowstone and finally drove back to Denver for a couple of days before flying home.

That sounds a good trip, would have to take someone who can drive. What sort of of distances and travel times where they?

Funny that, I've just been looking up about Wyoming as my daughter is going there for a university exchange later this year.
Denver to Grand Teton is a bit less than 500 miles
Wyoming is about the least populated state in the US, coming in at 49; Alaska is no 50. Population is 580000, 1/10 that of Scotland with 3 times the area.
Do you know what time of year the eclipse is? Temps get down pretty low in the winter: -40C, a bit chilly.

Rocky mountains have dreadful weather. Morning may be OK, and in the afternoon the thunderstorms roll non-stop, and it can rain very heavily. I'm not sure Yellowstone is much different. I'd certainly hire a big modern SUV; without one I would have never made it back to Denver on time through pretty flooded mountain roads.

Weather is meant to be pretty good at that time of year in Jackson, 1 inch of rain normally in August, average of 77 degrees daytime and 38 at night
