hi, I have a website that it being hosted by hosting24.com at the moment however I don't feel that this the best for a photograthy website. So whats peoples views on www.photium.com and are there any other companys about that other the same?

Thanks

I use them. They're UK based and customer service is very fast, often dealing with email enquires within an hour. Their site templates are fairly customisable, and chances are you'll find one you like. Personally I think they're good value for money. Go for the free trail, and see how you get on.

I love Photium, costs me the best part of £17 a month but the ease of use, the second to none service from Will and the fact that I don't have to worry about the ins and outs of web design or server issues (In fact, I can't recall the site ever going down) make it much more worthwhile than having a site built from scratch to the same specs.

The only problem I can see is that if i had a galary of clients photos I would want to password protect these and the only account that allows that if the advanced one which is £17.00 a month

I have had one for 1 year now See sig if you want to see my site. I will be upgrading to the full package in a month or so

Will is great and helped me alot at any time of day / late into the night..

Yes the website is exactly what I have been looking for. But my only problem is that I've mentioned above about password protecting. I dont do that many paid shoots but alot I do are with kids and the parents want that securiity of the password.

Decided to sign up for an account and loved it instantly. Will have to decide on weather to upgrade or not to get the password protect on the galleries at a later date.

Thanks For The Advice People.

Another vote for Photium as I'm in the process of setting up my site with them. I've emailed queries to them on a Sunday evening, expecting a response on the Monday... and Will has sorted me out within the hour :)

Superb service from Will. Into my third year and no complaints. Rob

Yeh I just posted a question thinking he will get bk to me in the morning no it was virtually instant.

I used Photium for a couple of years - customer service was fantastic, pricing reasonable and all in all a great experience. There is a lot of scope for personalising your own site if you get into it. I only left a couple of months ago because I needed a bit more flexibility with the layout but if you are an amateur or semi-pro - I would heartily recommend them.

Can you style your own themes? Are there plugins? (in Photium)

Every Photium website i've seen has same feel and look and it drives me potty.

It's good though for people like me with no web development experience, you can customise them pretty well if you spend time doing it. How does zenphoto work? I must admit it looked just like Wordpress when I had a quick look before, I couldn't really see the benefits over something nice and easy such as Photium.

I have been with Photium for over a year and I highly recommend them too.

One question I have though is this Will fella that replies to all the customer queries, is he really just 1 guy that works 24/7 or does the whole customer support team just reply using the same name?

My site is in my sig if you want to look. The slideshow on the homepage is out of action at the moment but I'll get round to sort that soon.

I think Will runs it pretty much alone but I must say I've never had slow service from him so it must be ok. I'm another happy customer.

To Chris Taylor - it sounds like your opinion that zenphoto is "much much better" should be taken with a pinch of salt as your response is just questions about Photium and not direct experience.

Cant fault them at all. With a bit of imagination and spending a bit of time you can customise the site to look just how you want. Fantastic customer service as mentioned earlier. Will is always updating it with new features and little tweaks.

I will certainly be renewing my subscription at the end of my year.

Phil

PS Meant to say it is normally Will who answers the questions, although looking at others doing it also in the future.

If you like the experience then that's great and if you make sales even better.

I have never used Photium, what are the benefits of it?

Why is ZenPhoto so good?

From my work background, I get the chance to fully edit the code/css to how I want to vision the site. You can add categories/sitemaps etc. Also adding your own code lets you include google analytics, which lets me see which specific terms, users are coming in.

At the moment Zen Photo is at an early release, but its built from the owners of Wordpress, who have BBpress too.

Also its FREE! Rather than spending around £200 a year on Photium, I can spend that on a new lens or equipment.

Photium allows integration to Google analytics very easily, even for me with no experience of such things.

My Photium site only cost £80 for the year and that included registration of the .co.uk address.

Not having a go just making you aware of what you thought about Photium in these cases was wrong.

I presume the OP is aware of the costs as am I. But at least you are providing information about ZenPhoto now to highlight why you think it is good and for you I am sure it is.

For me, Photium is good because I have no work background in web code/css, sitrmaps, etc, its easy upload, layout tools and google analytics integration makes it worth the money.

The thought of battling with a platform that is at an early release would fill me with dread about trying/having to tinker, hack and cope with issues.

For me, £200 a year is a relatively small amount of money to pay for ease of use and the availability of a dedicated support service to help me when I get confused!

Well, after 18 months of trying to design my own website, I've taken the leap and signed up for the free trial with Photium.

My views so far, I'm very pleased with the results so far and the ease I can set things up, I will certainly be signing up soon for the full product.

And Will certainly answers very quickly.
