Hi Everyone,

I'm really excited today as a band I had the pleasure of photographing a few months ago have just released their new CD and it prominently features my work.

The band are Winter in Eden and the album is Echoes of Betrayal. The CD has been released nationally and it's available in HMV, Amazon, iTunes etc. It's absolutely amazing walking in to HMV and picking up a CD featuring your work - God knows how the band must feel!

Their website features some of my promotional work for them too (http://www.winterineden.com/albums/01_promo/) check it out, I'd be interested to get some feedback.

Also, it's Classic Rock Magazines Track of the Day! Check out the link:

Hopefully, some of the national magazines will pick up on it an run a feature - that would be cool too! Fingers crossed:thumbs:

Thanks for listening - I had to tell someone!!:D

Well done , you must be well chuffed, I know I would be.

Steve

Congrats!! Bet it is a nice feeling. I'll not ask if you got paid. It's your business and only yours.
It's a question that arises every time someone has work printed. ;)

 Kev, very well said.

Many congrats OP - what an awesome thing to happen

Thanks for the comments, I'm still chuffed to bits.

I was adequately rewarded. More importantly, the exposure and word of mouth has led to three further paid jobs and the possibility of working with a promoter for a national chain of music venues, although this hasn't been finalised yet.

I was not responsible for the cover artwork, just the photos of the band on the inside cover, the press release and promo shots for their national tour.

All of this came about as I read a fantastic review of the bands first album in a national music mag and looked at their website with a view to buying their record. The photos were okay but not, in my opinion, representative of a band of this calibre. So, with the upmost respect to the band, I wrote to them and told them so!

A year later, while on holiday, I received an email from them telling me that they kept my email on file and would like to offer me first option on promo work for their new album. I was floored!

I must say, they've been brilliant to work with, very professional and gracious for my efforts. They invited me to the recording sessions for the album too which, as a lifelong music fan and been in a pub rock band for fun myself, this was an awesome experience in itself.

I'm learning a lot about the business and contractual side of this side of photography too. A steep learning curve for someone who really just does it for fun!

Thanks again everyone for taking time to read and comment, cheers.

Gotta say a big well done and I'm very pleased for you. As for all the "did you paid stuff"...they are just envious sharks wanting to **** on your fire. Well done sir!

Reading the story of how you got the commission is admirable - a bit of cheek and nothing ventured nothing gained and all that. Sounds like a real treat that money can't really buy.

Good luck with your future commissions.

Nice story and great result.

I bet you're glad you made that first move to contact them.

I have to say a massive well done firstly for putting yourself out there, it just shows what happens when you are proactive!

Secondly, for developing that opportunity, I hope it goes really well for you ;)

Congratulations mate  I hope you bought a copy of the CD.

I didn't need to, a week ahead of its release they sent me a pack containing the retail CD, framed poster of the photo featured on the CD insert, a tour Tee Shirt, badges, pins and a DVD which featured a custom slideshow of photo's I took from the session. All this little lot was part of a limited collectors edition (only 50 were made) which sold out before the release date!

In addition, they gave me and my website a shout out when they were being interviewed on radio.

Very nice people, are all clients like this....?

Of course all clients are like that and the roads are paved with gold.

Ultimate question though....did you get paid for it ;)

I think the goodies you received in return far outweigh any payment, unless of course you do this as a living. Great story

...and the ultimate answer is that I was adequately rewarded. And to fend off the next round of questions, it was enough to make me happy but not enough to change my tax status.;)

Congratulations, Must be a great feeling, As long as you are happy with what you recieved, that is all that matters.

Well done, That is something you wont forget...a great feeling no doubt..

As a footnote to this, I've been contacted again by the band as they embark on a national tour to support the album. They need a new set of publicity shots as they have a new member.

The best part (other than it being a fully paid gig for those that need to know): They have negotiated the exclusive use of a castle and grounds from when the last visitor leaves through to 8am the next day!

By the way, here is the photograph from the CD:
