Would you throw litter?

Yes
Not any old litter - but this, from a energy bar description on a cycling site?

The bar is wrapped in a dry leaf, providing a natural and rapidly biodegradable wrapper that can be tossed by the roadside with a clear conscious.

It still feels wrong, and while I guess chucking an apple core is one thing, at a distance this could be any old sweet wrapper!

I'd take it home and put it in our compost pot.

It might be environmentally friendly but it is also going to be unsightly. Do we really want everywhere covered in decomposing food wrappers? I'd hope we don't.

PS.
We often take a tub of pre cut fruit out with us but apple cores usually remain at home. If I did have one whilst in the countryside I might leave it for the local wildlife but I wouldn't leave it on the floor in a built up area.

Yes, it doesn't say how long it takes to decompose... but I cant see it being a quick thing!

Leave a place as you found it.

(Otherwise people would just take a poo on the street and say it is biodegradable)

I found a product(the only one?) that states that for its 'usage' and the wrapper ~ the inner at least ~ has no printing and appears to look a bit like a piece of brown Kraft Paper.

But IMO it creates the wrong attitude in the buyer and for food wrapping I surmise has been treated in some manner that may slow its breakdown PLUS as a none native UK plant leaf what guarantee 'biosecurity wise' is there that it is sterile and free from plant pathogens???

Good Idea, maybe but really  :banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead:

This country is infested with lowlifes who simply do not give a toss about what rubbish they scatter.
I recently drove a friend to a Glasgow hospital for an outpatient appointment. Discarded face masks all over the place. Some were lying on the ground beside litter bins.

No. Tossing litter of any kind should result in the offender being put on litter picking duties for a period determined by the seriousness of the offence.

No alternatives like a fine and regardless of status or income. You drop litter - you pick it up for a week with no pay. Simple.

I like your idea but how would people distinguish miscreants from those, like me and there are many, who litter pick ? Last week I was presented with a new litter picker by a near neighbour who belongs to a litter-picking group. I prefer to do my own thing, though. It's one (of very many..lol) of my pet hates. I assume they'd have to comply with 'Elf & Safety and wear a yellow/orange jacket.

Too right. With 'Littering Offender' (or something similar) printed on the front and back - it's important to distinguish the offenders from the volunteers.

Spitting, urinating or defecating in public are all punishable by a £75 on-the-spot fine.

If you are really really caught short, and I'm sure that most of us have at some point, the £75 fine would be gratefully paid :D
However a more discrete location may have been prudent (y)

In normal times, how often did you see people in fast food car parks open door drop packaging and drive off.?
Rats are quite fond of a half eaten burger and fries, and often frequent the surrounding bushes
(they learn very quickly where the best(?) food is in regular supply, and yet these are the same people that are quick to complain
That they saw a rat "As big as a cat" :D )

So yes keep tossing rubbish well edible rubbish anyway, feed the rats & keep me in work (y)

It's not only rats that are smart. Another scavenger, the gull is very switched on. They have been found to be turning up at schools at break times when snack left-overs are about. Also, At the end of the article it states that research shows that if on the promenade or similar and there are gulls after your ice cream, chips or whatever then by staring at them they will back down but the ones I saw in Penzance last year craftily swooped down from behind people. They really are smart as many creatures are and far more than we've been giving them credit for until the Nature documentaries came along.

What I'd have also been interested in is how do those who turn up at the schools judge time. The sun ? What if it's a deep cloud layer that completely blocks it out ?

I don't know about gulls, but I know my dog can tell the time. He knows when it's time to go for a walk, when he gets a snack, when it's dinnertime and what time he gets his teeth cleaned before bed. He is almost minute perfect - he's amazing. The best thing is that he knows not to wake me before 0800. :D

Nope - no matter how quickly it rots and disappears it will be an attractant for more (non-degradable) litter and before you know where you are you have spoke like this : https://www.southwalesargus.co.uk/news/18395089.video-newport-fly-tipping-hotspot-can-seen-space/

If I had my way anyone caught dumping the likes of that would have their vehicle confiscated..no appeal allowed. I'd make sure the signs to that effect were large and obvious. The councils are between a rock and a hard place on this. As soon as they started charging for taking bulky items away..fridges,washing machines, mattresses (I've seen them on the roadside) TVs etc it was forecast that illegal tipping would increase but because of government cut backs it was inevitable. We pay £24 per three items and an additional £18 per item for any more than that. A few years ago a near neighbour left a three piece suite on the grass verge and it was there for three weeks. He called the council and told them that 'someone had dumped it there' They collecteed it of course. I found this out because I got chatting to a council worker who was working along the brook ..I keep my eye on it re branches blocking it and if kids do what all kids do..lol..deliberately dam it I give them a call whicvh they want residents to do (after the city's dreadful 2007 flooding which, fortunately we avoided) and he told me. He added that whilst they didn't believe the occupant they took it. I told him that for a couple of weeks prior to it going onto the verge I saw it in their back garden. They've long since moved.

It's an aspect of government (whichever one) I don't like. The lack of a wider view. How can we keep the country tidy ? People blame LAs for all sorts when, infact, they should be blaming central government. Unfortunately, the LA can't leave containers at particular locations because people will put all sorts in including tins/bottles of chemicals and all manner of hazardous waste. My wife was at one of our local supermarkets on Monday and they used to have a large container for cardboard but it's gone. A man drew up alongside one of the only two remaining containers...not sure what they are for..clothes /shoes ? and took a large amount of cardboard out of his estate car and left it by the there on the ground. There are 'No fly tipping' signs. with a photo of a policeman on them. My wife spoke to one of the staff, a youngster, who said the manager wouldn't pursue the matter and it was left to him to clear it up. If I'd been the manager I'd have had it followed up.

Amazing. He gets his teeth cleaned too ? Lol. I say lol but that's very good. (y)

Been saying the same for ages - make it hard or awkward to dispose of rubbish... many people will just dump it!

Well what can you expect that is Brighton. We visited there in 2019 when on holiday and for our trouble my partner was assaulted by a low life high as a kite on 'spice'. Because she is on Warfarin she had to be taken to hospital in case the blow caused a bleed on the brain. No Court case but the woman was sectioned.

the gull is very switched on.
Tell me about it. I've spent many years on landfill on "bird deterrent"
Flying Bops ( not for a couple of years I've now reverted back to my preferred job of rodent control)
And yes they are smart. Very smart, they'll go follow a plough rather than scavenge land fill at certin times of the year,
They'll increase their visits when the schools are closed.
I've even known them to wait 40 miles away o buildings waiting for a passing truck full of waste, some hitch a ride some follow on, waiting for it to tip.
They can tell ( learn) the difference between a truck carrying organic and in organic waste. Before it tips anything.

As for turning up at the correct time, at schools etc, they always have scouts in the air, one spots something good, the others follow.

One for chuckle, you know those large open mouthed bins with a target in the middle on the exit from fast food places, motorway service stations,
where you just toss your rubbish in?
I've seen occasionally, arm comes out the near side window, tosses rubbish at bin totally misses from point blank range car drives off ..
How easy do they want it FFS?

The thing is, who's going to approach her to issue a spot fine.

We regularly litter-pick through the village, and I'm amazed at how people can just toss this stuff from their cars while driving through.

Not any old litter - but this, from a energy bar description on a cycling site?

Yes, assuming it was obviously a leaf that would degrade quickly and naturally I'd throw that into the hedge along with the thousands of other leaves that the wind has blown there. Just like I've thrown banana skins and apple cores with a clear conscience.

I literally don't. These are luchos dilitos, right?

I use them and I make sure I take the leaf home. But if it fell out of my pocket it's much less bad than an aluminium or plastic pouch.

Also, they taste REALLY good.
