English Tourism Week is fast approaching and we have an exciting event to share with you in order to celebrate.

Gloucester Framed is a fantastic FREE competition that is fun for all.

All you have to do is photograph your favourite part of Gloucester and post it on our Facebook page to be in with the chance of having your image framed and displayed in our shop window for 2 weeks!

Deadline for submissions will be the 19th February and the exhibition will begin on the 29th February for two weeks.

Remember - the more abstract the better!

Don't forget the small print -
- State whether it is an amateur or professional photograph
- Pictures need to be of a suitable size and quality to be enlarged for display
- By sharing your image with us you are giving your permission for us to use your photo for other promotional uses
- State your full name so we can credit your image if it's used in our photo exhibition
- Anything submitted after the deadline will not be considered

personally no - but terms like that are pretty standard and at least they arent grabbing the copyright

If you made your living from photography, you probably wouldn't. The remaining 99.999% of the population who don't, probably wouldn't care.

Steve.

I guess a lot will depend on how much you value the prize.

In answer to the opening question, personally I wouldn't. But then I wouldn't have any interest even without that clause.

Apart from the T&C's I can't imagine why I would want that :)

Really don't see a problem with it. As has been said several times before, it is up to the individual.

indeed - anyone particularly wanting to enter a comp in the gloucester area would be bettr off with this one http://www.exploregloucestershire.co.uk/page335.asp , similar rights grab but at least the winner gets 500 notes

I wonder if winning competitions with cash prizes is a valid way to earn a living - it probably is for top 0.001% of photographers, In that case I doubt they would be that bothered by a rights grab, would they?

i doubt anyone good enough to win competitions habitually is going to bother with one with a 500 prize pot though

so are they choosing 2 winning photographs?

- State whether it is an amateur or professional photograph -

must be a reason for this????

Maybe they are expecting the professional efforts to be so good amateur togs couldn't compete!

Love these threads at least it looks like people are becoming slightly more reasonable couple of years ago this would have been a right bun fight.

Personally I wouldn't enter this comp as the prize is awful it's not worth writing the email to submit it!

Pretty much all competitions will reserve the right to use the image in their PR. It's a competition... they're not commissioning you!

If your just setting out as a photographer and you win it could work well as a little bit of advertising to the public considering it'll be in a window with your name along side for a couple of weeks.

If you don't make a living or intend to then most wouldn't care.

If your already established as a photographer then the only reason to do it would be if you planned on using the image for promotional purposes yourself or perhaps to raise money for charity.

I can't see any other reason to enter really although I fall in to the wouldn't care category at present and probably indefinitely if I'm honest with myself.

Depends if you're entering for a prize, or for exposure.

They are essentially too tight to pay someone for their skill and hard work and are after a load of free images that they can use wherever they like... for nothing... they can bog off!

how much exposure will you get by having a print in a shop window though ? - its still a waste of time either way IMO

Fantastic FREE competition....

You should all be grateful that they don't ask for a fee to enter their friggin competition....

 :$

Fair point.. LOL I was speaking more generally though.. not just this particular comp.

Well I entered three images and just received this email!

Congratulations! You have been successful in being chosen as a finalist for the Gloucester Framed competition!

We have chosen 2 of your images to be in the final 10 pictures; both the black and white Cathedral image and the Postbox image have been printed, framed and credited and will be displayed in our shop window from Monday 29th February – Sunday 13th March for everyone to see. They will then be displayed proudly in our Tourist Information Centre permanently for tourists and residents alike to admire.
