After a nice little bonus from work this month i think i need to buy a new lens to aid me in my constant struggle for this photography journey...

I'm after a Canon EF-S 55-250mm F4-5.6 IS Zoom Lens to strap on to te 400D and its first proper outing will be next weekend but as always im impatience and want it tomorrow...

Jessops (everyones freindy local fraudster) is knocking them out for £239.99
http://www.jessops.com/Store/s70095...EF-S-55-250mm-F4-56-IS-Zoom-Lens/details.aspx

Or i could get it cheaper on the net but risk it not getting here till just before next weekend not giving me time to take a few shots before hand...

What would you do?:bang:

Well I don't use Jssops although there is one in town, I always use my local independent, well 4 branches but as good as it gets, good service, good advice, good craic and great at opening doors as far as I am concerned - I don't mind paying a few quid more either as if I need any help it is on the doorstep and they will look after any warranty claim, packaging, sending off etc

I use the Kendal store but I have visited Carlisle when passing and the same friendly attitude was there !

It's £189 in Whorehouse Express, so I suppose it depends on how important £40 quid is to you. Having said that, in my experience, Whorehouse are good people to deal with and have a great next day delivery so you'd have it by the weekend anyway.

So I'd probably buy on-line from Whorehouse thinks me.

Sometimes it is well worth it to pay the little bit extra to get something sooner! There is nothing wrong with that.

If you can't wait, then by all means go ahead with the Jessops offer and you should never feel guilty about it. Just do it, and enjoy it.

Dseered is quite right. If you have a local indy shop I suppose you should try to use them.

Don't forget to add your Jessops voucher code LENS10 for 10% off ;)

Brings it down to 215.99, do the collect at store option and voila!

marcel - i think we are on the same wave lenghts!

I have purchased this now with the ovely offer code ( i love google! Google: Jessop offer codes - hehe)

So i pick the lens up tomorrow and should hopefuly have no problems with it :)

I paid for impatience... :(

i have not spotted any local photography shops where i live and to be honest - they would probally have robbed gear in them anyway... Warrington is not the prettest of places to place host to a photography shop...

well i certianly paid for the impatience, I went to get my lens, got home opened the package and there was a lovely great big scratch awaiting for me on the lens - freaks had sold me a 2nd hand lens.

My local jessops was shut so had to drive to manchester - got my refund so now have to visit Warrington jessops tomorrow to re-purchase!

On a good note though i got 2 filters and a spare battery :)

130+ miles wasted in the car though :(

dam that must be so frustrating, but look on the bright side..... erm...... you will get to play with your new lens tomorrow (oh and check your lens before you leave the store) i bought the same lens a month or so ago from 7dayshop.com i really love it, i think its great value for the money,

good luck with your purchase.

oh i certianly will!

He even offered me to give me something for free but as i had just bought a UV & Polorier filter i was just polite and said that it wasnt his fault and that it was ok... (it was the other stores fault)
Very good Cust Service in Trafford centre Jessops - The manager acctually cares for his customer...

i did grab a pictre for my memories - Roll on tomorrow!

Jessops ALWAYS price match Warehouse Express, no questions. Every bit of kit I buy is from Jessops price matched against Warehouse Express.

Gary.

I'll bare this in mind, do i need to take proof of this ? e.g. a print out or will they go online in store?

I always phone before hand.

1: to check stock (The expensive stuff they normally only have 1 item in stock)

2: to check the price match will apply (they have yet to say no)

3: To reserve

Last time I asked about price matching in Jessops it had to be against an ad in the publication that their price match was advertised, have they made their price matching procedure more favourable or could it be EdinburghGary is well in with his local store having spent a fortune there:D

I have no patience and work far too close to Jessops. Almost all of my gear was bought there (call me stupid).

I think its a great store, I know some people think its the Burger King of Photography, but not all chains are crap.

They took my fubared SB 600 back, no receipt, after 7 months, and replaced free of charge(or organised a free replacement). No swap though.

Gary.

I got a the new lens today, really happy with it. Went out snapping some swans (which i will post in the correct forum).

The lens feels solid and very nice to work with.

All in all i'm a happy chappy :)

On Gary's advice I went into Jessops today and asked for a double whopper with onion rings. No joy.

damn, that was tomorrows adventure, so they do not do the XL Bacon double cheese either??

You did 130 miles from warrington to the trafford centre and back, I think you need to brush up on your map reading skills a bit :p

Ah that wonderful store where they scoffed at my gear and asked if that's all I had when I was in there buying a 17-40 on impulse. I guess only having circa £7k's worth of gear at the time wasn't enough for them :gag:

Have used them for a few bits when I'm out and about. Don't understand the attitude toward Jessop's though. I *wasted* a whole £30 on a £5k order with them rather than buying from several different retailers on the net and waiting forever for it to turn up .....

To be honest Gary, the one in the West End is pretty good, they do know their stuff (except about the MP-E65 I got from them recently ). They are more than happy for me to pop out of the shop and try out their lenses!

lol - sorry guys i forgot to mention CREWE jessops.
Warrington to Crewe back to Warrington then to the trafford and back to warrington...

I agreee a fantastic store, and heads and tails above all other Jessops I have been in.

Think it won a nationwide award last year. I really enjoy going in. The guy that looks like Frodo Baggins is very good!

There are some places worse than jessops y'know.....

One camera shop assistant round here (names withheld to protect the stupid) advised me that I would be unable to get a D300 (back in December) as it was an old model and had been replaced by the 350D:bonk::bonk:
