Would you lend your gear to a friend

I regularly lend a pal of mine a 300mm or 400mm f2.8 & body when I'm not using them myself.
As others have said I know he'll treat them well (better than I do probably) & he'd do the same for me if our situations were reversed I know.

Stew.

Happily. I would just apply the perfectly legal and standard 'Wonga' type agreement to it so they ended up buying me lens for the rest of their natural lives.

Of course I would, just as soon as I see Beelzebub ice skating to work.

Please don't take my precious away .....

Me too, i'm not that precious with my own, but very careful with somebody else's.

Same here. Fortunately my friends notice and I've been able to properly play-test quite a number of lenses and bodies before making my own buying decisions... I try to pay back the favour but most people own more stuff than I do. :(

Now, if we're talking guitars... for reasons I can't explain, that's a different story altogether. ;)

A friend lost my sb400 once, he was too embarrassed to say so, so he replaced it. Wondered where the scratch on the top had gone lol.

So, guess what, I'm very happy to lend to people I trust.

I wouldn't hesitate. I'd prefer if they were insured or I believed they had the finances to replaced and wouldn't moan about having to do so. What sort of "friend" would break something of value and not replace or lie about it anyway? I'm insured myself so I'd have no real worries.

I've borrowed the odd thing in the past, I regularly lend stuff out, I've two members of TP that are family and shoot canon so it sort of comes with the territory but I wouldn't hesitate to lend my stuff out to people when I'm there, and to family they're more than welcome to stuff out of the kit bag  often at TP meets I've attended if someone has a lens that another TPer is interested in buying then I've seen them borrowed to try out and have done the same myself

Fortunately I don't have many photographer friends, and out of the ones I do have they either shoot with a Nikon or are a bit odd & will only shoot with their 70-200 L because "it's the best lens so why use anything else"

I'm a bit possessive of my kit too so I'm not really sure, I suppose it depends who it is I'd probably loan the 70-200, 35mm & 75-300 & a flash but not my camera, 50mm or 100mm although I'm more than happy to share my kit when I'm there.

People never look after things which arent theirs like they would if it were their own

It's true, but perhaps not in the way you think. In my case I look after other people's stuff better than I do my own, but I very rarely ask to borrow things out of concern for not being able to return it in the condition it was when I got it.

I have an engine hoist on long term loan from one friend at present and he is the one person I probably would lend photographic equipment to as he's also the only one that would know how to use a DSLR. Except that he has a Nikon so wouldn't have any need to borrow any of my a-mount kit :naughty:
