Would you ever use a wig or toupee

Or have a hair transplant?

I'm really thinking about issues that effect men here, and wondering why some find hair loss so traumatic that they resort to the above solutions. If you were to lose a significant portion of your hair would you feel compelled to hide the fact?
 
No I'd rather shave it all off, way things are going that'll be next week.

Been shiny on top for about 30 yrs now and still nothing would convince me to wear a carpet on top of my head. Maybe unless your rich enough to buy one that is hard to tell apart from real hair it might be worth considering, look at Bruce Forsyth now theres a guy that is not short of a bob or two but the wigs he wears are obvious. If he can't find a wig that is impossible to tell apart from real hair then what chance has the ordinary guy in the street. Implants sound painful.
 
Haven't seen a syrup yet that doesn't shout out at me. And as for implants - do I really want to look like Wayne Rooney?

If I had the money I would have a hair transplant, I saw one years ago that looked bad but the new methods are a lot better. Things started to retreat in 2009 not noticable but hairs in the plug hole type of thing I still have a good covering on top but it is thinner. I was one of those who didn't care about my hair I just got it cut as least often as possible but now its thinning out I need to get it done more often, when it gets bad unless I win the lottery I will be buying a pair of clippers.

As already said, each to their own, but I don't understand why blokes do it.

I started losing my hair about 20 years ago and never considered a wig. If I'm meant to have no hair than fair enough, it doesn't bother me.

Having said that the loss of hair clearly affects some to a great degree. About 30 or so years ago I was teaching in a boys secondary school in east London and another teacher who was about 35 years old and had taught in the school for about three years had lost a lot on top and decided he would get a wig. I thought it took a lot of courage for him to walk in one Monday with a new head of hair.

If you believe in evolution, you can see that at each stage of mans evolution from ape to human he has lost hair, therefor is stand that us bald men are just farther up the evolutionary ladder that the rest of you .
 
nope - rapidly thinning on top - soon going to be the buzz cut for me.
 
I used to have a business selling shoes

I had a regular customer for 20 years

He started out wearing a ginger wig which was obvious but matched the rest of his hair

As the years went by he started to go grey but the wig stayed the same

Last time I saw him it looked like a ginger cat curled up on his head

I'd never ever wear a wig, in my family some men lose their hair some go grey

I started going grey at 25 I'm 51 now, 90% grey and haven't bought any just for men either
 
Started thinning on top a decade or so ago. A bit less traumatic than I thought as I'd outgrown my metal head phase by then :)
Clipped down to my now customary No2 and it's very practical!
Plus the pigment-deficiency shows less (grey ;) ) and saves a bomb on shampoo lol.

So, no, no way would I ever consider a wig.
Indecently, most drag-queens of my acquaint also have close cropped hair, I'm told it makes it easier to change wigs mid-performance!

Its the high levels of testosterone that does it ;)
 
Started losing my hair back in my late teens and have been pretty much bald for decades. It's never bothered me in the slightest that I've gone that way, though it can be a pita sometimes having to wear a hat when others don't.
 
I've been getting a No.2 for the last ten years.

To be honest, being an 'outdoor guy' its been a godsend. Don't need to keep a comb or brush, don't need hair products, dry off quickly on the hills or bike, no helmet hair, feels more hygenic, can cut it myself - no barbers to visit.

If I had a wig I'd need to tether it to my head the places I go...and at night might need to keep it in its own wee cot :lol:
 
Almost a Kojak here - missus wont let me Bic it But I will one day - do i have to gets shirts like Harry Hill when I do......;-)
 
I can't work out if I started losing my hair when I moved in with my wife or when I had kids, could be a combo of the 2 (or it could be heritary, most of my mums brothers are bald). I'm now 33 and have been using clippers and a razor (try to avoid bic as it looks like an axeman has been let loose) to keep my hair away. So much easier to look after - except when its sunny, then have to sun cream and wear a hat. I think it suits me more than my monk style haircut and its a lot more popular now.
 
50 YO and I've got loadsa hair on my bonce, going a bit grey in a few more places. started on the sides, and has recently started to infiltrate elsewhere. Some people thought I was in my mid thirties the other week. Sad thing of all I'm still kin ugly and my belly has that middle-aged spread.
 
Almost all gone on top. Latest hair treatments can help keep the hair you have but does b****r all if it's already gone. Hair cloning or stem cell treatments will sort out the youngsters in the future but unless I win the lottery, I'll stay a slap head

Haha do it! I tend to shave mine from May to October. The rest of the year it stays around grade 2 level.

You mean you not a big hard black cop from NYC with a epic fro, damn now I'm really disappointed, just like I was a TPCon this year when it turned out Marcel really didn't actually look like Arkwright
 
Like some of the other guys I started losing my hair in my mid-teens.

I just use clippers once every 4-6 weeks now.

Wish they brought out a pill that made all your hair fall out, wouldn't have to mess about with the clippers then.:)

They have. It's called Kemotheraphy.
 
Less hair means less shampoo, less drying, less pulling by children and less expense at the barbers. The last thing I'd want to do is stick more of the stuff on top! Nice hair is the woman's department.

I'm thin on top with a buzz cut but jeez - the hair is growing everywhere else.

From what I recall we baldy's just have a higher percentage of testosterone to estrogene :thumbs:
 
Clippers for me for the last 10 years. Couldn't imagine wearing a wig.

It must be like wearing a woolly hat in the summer...unbearable.
 
Been losing it since bleaching the Mohawk in my teens, just shave the bonce every few weeks to grade one, doesn't bother me in the slightest.

Going a bit thin on top - who wants 'thick' hair anyway.

Only problem with going bald is knowing when to stop when washing your face.

One bottle of shampoo last's me about 6 months - would be longer but gravity works - got the hairiest a*s you have ever seen lol

Also I think hair pieces are way over priced and I wouldn't want to 'toupee'

I knew a rock musician years ago who was devastated when his hair started falling out in his 30's. He eventually had a "hair unit" fitted (basically a bloody good wig) and it looked really good, but it cost him a fortune to maintain because it was knotted into his own remaining hair and had to be taken off to have his scalp cleaned up every couple of weeks. I dread to think what this looked or smelt like...I imagine it's like wearing a plastic bag on your head for a fortnight .....yeuch. :gag:

I lost touch with him for a long time, but saw him a year or so back...he's now as bald as a coot. Guess it was just too expensive to keep up.

I'd never wear a wig. I started losing my hair in my late 20's and have the chrome dome look now.
