Would you be happy with this?

A Big thankyou to all who responded.

I do accept that there is a bit of a learning curve with prime / f2.8 lenses but having had the original VR1 model something didn't add up. I'm learning with more sophisticated kit and accept some of the original pictures were challenging in many ways. The focal tests didn't reveal anything too dramatic but this replacement is just so different, its like witchcraft (LOL)

I think the biggest surprise to me, and the shop was the performance i.e lack of the washed out look. They had similar on their D300s but not their D90.

I am over the moon now, and again just shows Jacobs have good customer service.

Time to delete the old photos and get out and take some good un's to enoy:D

If there's a problem, a comparison test always shows it as there should be only one variable - the lens. Just looking at isolated images on line, we could have been guessing for weeks.

Great result

I know in this case it proved to be the lens... but something I did notice... the first few images look to have signs of jpg compression artefacts on them... wiggles around the edges, and the file sizes are about 24kb, the new ones don't and the file sizes are 4 times larger, so less compression.

I fell afoul of this myself some time back... the posted images looked rubbish, but when reprocessed and exported (from the same original) it made a massive difference to the resulting quality.
