it was created by an artist as art and has been accepted by knowledgeable people as art.
The fact that they have studied art for many years. Gallery directors are not just any old gullible fools, they know something about the history of art, what is currently selling and what the public want to see. It might be a good marketing strategy to put something outrageous in your gallery to grab the attention of the tabloids but then it is the tabloids who are being fooled not the art establishment, who, I suspect, know exactly what they are doing...What makes these people 'knowledgeable'?
It resembles an explosion in an IKEA warehouse.
I was thinking more reject pile behind a charity shop but the sentiment's the same!
If this is displayed somewhere I hope it is well labelled.
And hopefully nowhere near a refuse collection point.![]()
Has people talking about it, doesn't it
No, it has people talking about disappointment with poor art, which isn't quite the same.
I didn't say I thought it was good art.....
I'm not seeing people discussing other pieces they regard as equally poor though...
Questions weren't asked about other "art installations" though...Only this one.
Not particularly but then so many apparent art pieces are like this..
I'm open to anything and won't dismiss something at the drop of the hat or say 'oh that's just crap' but whilst I get the colourfulness of the piece and the fact it was sauced from the streets, I still can't see the 'art'
The write up with kids making dens and personal space etc is inbuilt to us I agree but still.......![]()
As above , take a dump in the centre of a picture frame and call it art , who can say it's not . It's quite ridiculous but I'm afraid that's just the way it seems to be these days :-(
I'm not fly tipping, I'm creating a public art installation....
I've got a number of artistic friends some who's work I'll be honest I don't really get or in some cases like, but I'm a firm believer if the artist considers it to be art and can persuade others of that case then fair play to them, it's not personally something I like but then there's a lot in this world I don't really like but if it brightens the world a little more power to them
What makes these people 'knowledgeable'?
I suspect it's more who you know - if you have the right friends in the art world they spread the word and it gathers momentum as they all want to be seen as being 'on trend'. Like the fashion world and all those sheep.
Or am I just an old cynic?
Art is in the eye of the artist, or so they say.
I've studied art for many years, including appreciation, history, symbolism, technique, form etc. and yet I've never understood the merit of installations like these.
I see a lot of this every year on November 5th![]()
