Would the library let me rummage the archives?

Street photography and documentary photography are my biggest loves in the art world. Being from Barry a port town, the busiest in the world at one time, I'm sure there is loads of interested shots hidden away in archives in the library never to see the light of day. I've never seen any sort of exhibition of street photography of Barrys streets over the years, which is a terrible shame. The library also has a small gallery and i'm thinking of approaching them to see if i can dig out a collection from there archives to put on display. Have i got no change? I do you think i should approach such a thing?

Were it up to me, I would be delighted to let someone have a rummage (supervised at first then left bto his/her own devices) and organise an exhibition. Best person to ask though would be the head librarian - worst they can do is say "No"!
