Would the Canon 24-105 work well for studio portraits?

Yes
I have beenseriously thinking about the 70-200 family for a portrait lens but when i was using my friends last night in a home studio shoot i noticed there really is not much room for full body shots etc. I was thinking therefore i might be better with the 24-105L but i was wondering if this would be suitable. Anyone used this indoors in a studio for portraits?

I had my family portraits taken at home about a month ago and noticed the photographer used a 24-105mm and an 85mm prime for most shots. They all seem to have come out quite well.

Many people will say the 24-70mm F/2,8 will be a better choice, but you must spend an extra few quid for that and lose IS + length.

Less likely for studio shots; my understanding is there's not much in IQ difference,so the 24-105 seems more plausible in this instance. Ask 'Euan' on here, who'll [might]know having owned both lenses...

In a studio using flash heads I typically use f8 to f11 and find the 24-105L to be great, though you have to watch out for distortion at the shorter focal lengths.

Yes, the 24-105 will be superb. It is extremely sharp as you close the aperture down a bit, and you'll have plenty of light in a studio so wont really need the 2.8 of the 24-70 (unless you want to do some soft depth of field stuff of course).

Every studio shot in my galley and most of the other shots are taken with the 24-105 . So i would say yes imho
