Hi
I am very impressed with the images taken at "Cad West"....etc. Would love to have a go at photographing fast jets, but no idea of how to go about it. If anyone is planning a trip, would be grateful if I could "tag along". Can normally take a day off work during the week.

im in the process of getting some time off for a trip up cad west, basically you will need at least a 200mm lens, and prefably some good walking boots and something warm, weather can change anytime up there so gotta be prepared, i always take a water proof jacket at least, you may also need plenty of patience as sometimes it can be 3-4 hours between movements, sometimes you might only get 1 or none all day, also the weather plays a big part, you need plenty of good light.. Most of the photo`s posted on here are the ones that they want you to see, i bet there are a lot more shots that are considered to be not good enough.

I agree with what Barrie says. Take boots, good jacket, waterproof trousers and water/food. It's a long day and not fun going down to the car to replenish stocks.
I take a cheap bivvie to protect me from sun/wind/rain. Worth every penny of the £15 I spent.
Cadwest isn't good for decent light before 2ish at this time of year. But you increase your chances of seeing anything at this spot more than the others.
Oh and I hate the climb. It's steeper than it looks...

I'm up there tomorrow (Tuesday 22nd, probably a little too short notice for you). I usually get to the Cad West car park for around 8.30 - 8.45 am, farm traffic permitting!
The only other thing I'd add is that if you go up and the weathers hot take some sun block or lotion as you can get burnt to a crisp quite easily, with the wind it can be a bit deceptive how hot it is.
