Worth upgrading from nikon d3100 to d90

Im thinking of changing my nikon d3100 and thought about buying nikon d90...
What you guys think? Is it worth doing and if not what would you suggest to buy?

Depends what you are trying to get out of your new camera. What is it that you don't like or want to upgrade from your D3100. IQ is not going to differ much at all but ergonomics will be massively different with a lot more direct buttons for control. You will also get the motor so you can AF non AF-S lenses assuming you have any of those.

Personally I'd wait for the D7100 to flood the market by which point you will be able to find plenty of D7000 s/h for very little which in my very humble opinion is a much better camera than the D90.

As I said though it all depends on what you are trying to achieve by upgrading.
 
Wait a few weeks and pick up a used D7000 for a bargain.
 
Its the motor im after the layout of buttons seem to be better and the lcd screen on the top plus the ttl nikon creative light system

Would be a good upgrade for you in that case. However i think they are a little overpriced, with d300 going for similar prices. Like above what about the d7000?
 
D300 for around the same money is a much better option than a d90.

D7000 would be as others have said your best option. They will drop like a stone in price over the next few months.
 
I have a D90. It's not bad. But it is starting to show its age and new models have surpassed it. So I tend to agree with the others here who suggest the D7000. As the D7100 is now launched I suspect the 2nd hand price will drop. But it depends on you budget really.
 
If you aren't completely sure you need to change your camera, you probably don't need to. Image quality is likely to be no real improvement. You're getting a better, heavier body from a previous generation of camera.
 
I had a D3000, and at the time had access to my dads D90, the image quality was better but not massively, the biggest advantage was the extra buttons and the way you could change settings without having to dive into menus.
However I now have a D7000 and that's is way better than the D90, especially when it comes to ISO performance.

As others have said it depends on budget but the D7000 is a massive upgrade, it did take a few weeks to get used to as its no where near as forgiving as my D3000.
