Hey. I was just wondering, I really want to go out and take some pictures of the snow but it hasn't stopped snowing and im worried that the snow may affect/damage my camera? I don't know if the camera is protected against it or something? Has anyone had any issues with the snow fall damaging/ruining images?

Only thing i would worry about is snow on the front lens element, will make things look fuzzy. If you have a lens hood use it and avoid pointing it into the wind. If you get some on the lens, just wipe it off, dont worry aout it.

Keep the camera reasonably dry (ie dont let it accumulate snow and turn into a snowball!) a few flakes will do it no harm.

Keep the batteries in an internal coat pocket to keep them warm until you need to use the camera. Dead batteries will probably be your biggest issue.

I would guess the snow is going to be around for a while so it will look better with a nice blue sky so perhaps wait for the killer shots. That said just need to remeber that snow is water in a sold state, when it goes back to liquid the usual precautions apply.
 
Electrical tape, rubber bands and sandwich bags will provide lots of protection :)

None here either. Just think of the obvious, dont let it get wet etc! and dont drop it into a icy stream as my brother did last year!

No lens hood or UV filter - seems to be ok. :)
 
I fell face first into the snow the other day. My 350d was the first thing to get buried. Still works fine :D
 
I once took my 450D and 55-250mm zoom out in light rain in Buxton with no ill effects. I wouldn't risk it in anything remotely resembling a proper rain shower, though.
 
Brought mine to work to try get some nice ones but it's all nasty brown slush now :'(. Camera took it fine, just made sure I didn't turn it on till it had warmed up once I was back in case of condensation from the move from cold to warm.
 
Just be careful when walking on the snow/ice.

Just landed on my back at the bottom of my drive because of compressed snow. D700 with 70200 2.8 over one shoulder, and 24-70mm over the other. Managed to grab them both while in mid air so my back took the fall. got snow on the camera as I was getting up, but no damage done :D

Did something similar myself walking back from Lyme Park as I live near it. Walking down one of the back paths around the bollinhurst reservoir area and slipped and fell on my rear. Luckily I didn't damage my 450D or 70-200 lens and all other stuff was in my backpack.

Some good tips in this thread especially the zip lock thing.

This is my first time I've shot in winter and it's all very exciting. Only problem is that am at work 5 days of the week so hopefully some will be still around for Saturday's venture to Lyme Park.
 
Looking at the weather forecast for Surrey, it's going to snow today and tomorrow. Friday, however, promises to be cold and sunny. So get out Friday in the early morning before it all melts.

Yep...I know what you mean as I only live a stone throw(ish) away from you in Long Crendon and we've had a slight dusting over at most.
To top it all it's bloody raining now!:shake:
 
I took my D40 out on the first night of snowfall. I tried protecting it with a plastic bag but couldn't stop some flakes landing on top, which I wiped off. No damage but I'm sure long term use on snow could cause some.
