Edit My Images
Yes
Hi there,

I’m looking to get a bit more traffic coming to my photography website by getting the images picked up on Google image search. Currently I have several galleries on the site which I would like to put out to a wider audience.

If I go to a gallery and select edit I can access the individual images or I can do this through media manager. By editing the individual images I can add information to the following sections, which I understand to be what Google requires. Please have a look below and see if im right/wrong or what I need to do.

Title – this shows what name I want the image to have and is shown when you hover over it, rather than the file name which I cant change.

Caption – Now is this needed?

Alt text – this I understand to be important; however I’m not sure if I just add keywords, punctuation or a short description?

Description – again is there a need for this or should it be an expanded version of the alt text

I can also add tags, but I think that may just be for me?

Thanks for any help or advice you can offer.

The caption appears below the photo (like a title), I use the same text as the title.

The alt text allows you to add detail of what the image is. This is the most important item in web terms, it's original use was to enable people to read the image without seeing it. It's necessary for DDA compliance. it's also the best image SEO tool. Don't tell everyone.

Thanks Phil,

so If i have a gallery called shipley park, and in that park was a picture of a highland cow, would i title the image "highland cow" and then in the alt text put "highland cow in shipley park"? I understand that they dont like just key words being addedd to the alt text field anymore.
